Yesterday was not one of my better days. Called my Nurse Practitioner for a refill on my prednisone. She wasn't having any of that. I was so sick, and her refusal just made me angry. Apparently she does not see the seriousness of the situation.

Twice in 13 days my throat and tongue have swelled conpromising my airway. Without the drugs I have to go to emergency, but if I have them on hand I can take them and not have to be at the mercy of hospital staff that really don't know anything about this disorder. I have been referred to the women't shelter because they thought I had been beaten, I have been given antibiotics for throat infections that I don't have. It is usually just a waste of my time,

However in an attempt to get my prescription filled last night I went and sat for 2 hours and had the best Nurse Practitioner. Not only did she listen to me so she could understand what the issue was, she examined my hives, and asked me why I didn't just call my health care provider. Well, when she heard that my NP wouldn't refill, she was astounded. This is life threatening, and I have to travel to take my daughter back to school this weekend. How irresponsible that my NP refused to help me, potentially putting my life at risk, and those with whom I am travelling.

So by nine pm I had pills in my mouth and woke up this morning feeling like a new girl. How fortunate am I that I this NP was willing to listen, and even though she had never heard of aquired angioedema she was willing to let me explain it, and to the best of my knowledge how it works in my body. Oh and with a refill to boot, she didn't want me to have to see my NP for a while, and I have an appointment with a specialist soon so hopefully we can get a better treatment plan.
