Well, I survived the hike. Didn't do the 13 mile one, just one that was over 10 1/2 miles! : ) It was gorgeous, too. Started off the hike doing that "cardiac hill" and that took a lot out of me for some reason. All those years of smoking must have done some major damage to my lungs. First time I really worried about this - I've worked out consistently for four months and still seem to have little improvement in lung power. Or hell, maybe it was just one of those days - like a sucky workout. One of those where you start off okay and then it turns to crap. Anyway, about 2 or 3 miles into the hike, I didn't think I'd have what it takes. After awhile, I realized it was mental and pretty soon I think I got into that "groove". I did pass up the opportunity to add an extra mile to it to get closer to Miner's Needle and opted instead to hang out on a big rock in the sun while Karl went for the look. But it seemed like after that, it was pretty smooth. It took us forever to hike it, with all the stops and rests and taking in the views. The last mile I kept thinking about the MGD 64's in the ice chest in the truck : ). I think what also helped is that it got a little cloudy and we had a bit of a breeze. A lot easier to hike with weather like that. I burned more calories yesterday than any day I've recorded since using the bodybugg - 3,930! Holy cow. But...now the downside....I've been so hungry all day and eating as if I'm not on a diet! The only positive thing is it's not just me - hubby is hungry, too. And I decided after that many miles and being so exhausted last night and today, that I wasn't working out today. I think I'll be lucky to burn 2,000 calories today. I need to record my food for yesterday and today, too. Too bad I had to eat! Well, not really. Too bad I'm so out of control, calorie-wise. Tomorrow I will eat right and work out to the DVD's again. It does feel pretty good to relax all day in my jammies and do nothing : ) Just watched Avatar on Blu-ray. Pretty cool. Wish we'd gone to see it in 3-D, though. Lazy, lazy day.

Wow: that's some hike! No wonder you're shattered. Not surprised you found the start hard if you went straight into a "cardiac hill": I find it takes at least 10 minutes to warm up, and convince the body that this is it, it's gotta Move! And you're exercising in the desert. Swimming is the same: I absolutely hate the first 10 lengths, but by 30 I'm in the Zone. Hanging out on the big rock sounds like bliss, then the next day you definitely deserved to relax and recover. Oh, and yes, Avatar was pretty awesome in 3-D, especially when they were running around on the hanging rocks and across bridges... we saw Alice in Wonderland recently, also in 3-D and loved it (well, it DID feature the gorgeous Johnny Depp!).
