Only 0.2 miles today according to my phone app, but I'M SURE I walked more - walked in both Walmart and Food Lion. I think having my phone in the cart made it not record as walking. Anybody know if you have to be HOLDING your phone and bouncing up and down for it to record on walking apps? Regardless, I'll make up the 0.3 miles with my walking today, just to be sure I get in my 1/2 mile.

Pretty sure it doesn't record movement lying in your cart just as it wouldn't if you had it on the car seat in your car.

It definitely has to be on your body. The step counters tend to be a little faulty no matter what.

You have to hold it. I got a little wallet size phone size holder that I wear. Really fun to record steps.

There's an app called MapMyFitness that records by GPS rather than by body movement. It definitely will record when you're in a car, which I've discovered when I forgot to end its record after a walk. You do have to turn it on any time you want to record, and it takes a bigger toll on your battery power. I'm not sure that it would work in stores like Walmart anyway, where the roof and structure may interfere with GPS. Good for you for "making up" for the lost 0.3 miles!
