This is the first time since I started that I've marked my weigh-in as "Followed: Reasonably Well" rather than 100%. Why is that? Because last week was my 55th birthday AND my six-month anniversary on Keto.
I know it seems counterproductive to celebrate six months on a diet by blowing said diet, but hey, it was my birthday. I thought long and hard for weeks beforehand about how I wanted to celebrate. I chose to pull out all the stops and have the Mexican food I so dearly love. I have eaten wonderful low carb versions of my favorite foods, and I don't feel deprived in any way, but I just wanted the full monty and I treated myself. And I have ZERO regrets. I ate chips and cheese dip, salsa, half a chimichanga, half a beef burrito, and all the rice and beans. And those carbs were deliciously tempered with guacamole and sour cream... Oh so YUMMY!
That was Thursday. On Friday, I picked up my oldest granddaughter for the weekend and we had cake. For that, I have regrets. It was not overly delicious, wasn't home made or anything special, and really left me feeling hollow and icky. As soon as I ate it, I regretted the nutritional expenditure. I may never eat cake again.
I went down to OMAD for the rest of the weekend and ended with a 0.2 lb gain for the extravagance. I'm fine with that. The Mexican food was worth it because that gain (which might not have even happened had it not been for the stupid cake!) was minimal and will be gone in no time. But the memory of having that fun food with my favorite family members will last forever.
