222Patricia's Journal, 21 July 2018

Rats! According to my keto sticks, I had a run of five days out of ketosis and just got back in yesterday. Although my total calories should have resulted in a small loss of weight and my net carbs were fairly restrained, my weight has drifted up a bit. I hope I'm not one of those people who can't handle 30 net carbs without gaining! Staying down to 20-25 net carbs is tough, especially now that my strawberry patch and peach and nectarine trees are producing wonderful fruit! I've been trying to limit myself to about 5 strawberries and about 4 ounces of peaches per day. I'm not able to exercise much because of my arthritis--just getting around with a cane or walker takes up most of my energy. It is a beautiful day, though, so maybe I can get in the pool to swim some laps. Even if it doesn't burn very many calories, it always makes me feel better if I can swim!

it is that way for some of us. in the beginning it is more important to get down to that lower level until your body has fully adapted and that can take longer then 2 weeks. It can take a month or so. Even adkins advises super strict guidelines for the first 2 to 3 weeks. then you can test drive one extra carb type, maybe (5 net more worth) item at a time to see your tolerance. are you measuring your food too?? You can be off with guessing, I know I was. grams is more accurate than ounces. If you are eating a reduced calorie diet and set your rdi correctly, you should still lose weight. low carb healthy eating will lose weight too. if this tiny gain is all the weight you have gained it would not concern me as I can have up to 3 pounds of retained water at different points. and that is with exercise and reduced calories.

Thanks for your comments, Baskington. I have been measuring everything, but just bought a digital scale because my old spring scale may not have been accurate enough. Perhaps that will help. And, you're right it may be retained water. Maybe I'll make myself a batch of Best Fudgy Keto Brownies so that I can have one of them (137 cal, 13g fat, 2g net carbs, & 2g protein) in place of a luscious but carb heavy peach!

yes making your own treats not only helps you keep your fat level to your macro's it satisfies a need. I did not experiment at all with those during the first couple months of my diet. I had other options for adding my fat if the level was low for the day. I never thought to make myself a chocolate fix. I am a big believer in keeping within the program and if it fits go for it.

Swimming is a great calorie burner, even at a leisurely swim!
