I just read with sadness a post that said she feels "disgusted" when she see herself, she wants to cry when looking into a mirror. Body image and self esteem go way beyond your weight. If the only way you feel good about yourself is dependent on your looks you might want to adjust that thinking. If what you ate for the day dictates whether you are having a "good" or "bad" day you might want to adjust that thinking. If a number on a scale determines "good" or "bad" days you might want to adjust that thinking. Are you a good person? Do you contribute to society in a positive way? Do you look beyond yourself for happiness? Do you have friends or family that love you for you? My weight makes up such a small part of who I am. Of course I want to look good but more importantly I feel so much better health wise. I am still the same person as I was when I weighed more. I hope I don't sound like I am lecturing anyone or being a pollyanna (although I am an optimist). Rejoice in who you are, fat thin or in between, enjoy life. You never know what can happen at any given moment.....

I just wanted to say that when I look in the mirror I am disgusted too. But it's not so much what I physically look like. My fat is just a physical manifestation of all the things I've told myself I'd do or not do and failed at. Every fat roll and dimpled ass cheek is just a reminder that I apparently couldn't resist that margarita and giant bowl of chips and salsa on Saturday (or whatever, I just happened to have a margarita and giant bowl of chips on Saturday...and fajitas...and rice...). Now I'm not saying this is a mentally healthy way to look at it, just saying that feeling disgusted with one's self may go deeper than the number on a scale or the reflection in the mirror. Which is kind of what you're saying, I think. I just kinda get where she may be coming from.

While we all have regrets, the only reason to visit the past is to use it to remind of where we want to go today. Most of us are happier in the moment of today. We can't do anything in the past, but today we can choose to exercise a little more...even 10 minutes or put healthy food choices in our pantries and refrigerators or even measure out single serving portions of some of the treat foods we eat. It takes practice to embrace the moment today but it is so worth it.
