I saw this on a FB post from The Fasting Method this morning. It resonated with me so I copied and pasted it here.

My tormentor!
I thought you were my friend. You were so sweet to me but you were hiding a dark side. As a child you tempted me with colourful delightful treats, and slowly lured me into your web like a nasty spider. Even my parents thought you a friend, allowing you in my life and they loved how you could make me smile.
As a teenager, I wanted you more and more and now I had the free choice to be with you after school and unsupervised. You seemed kind. Always there to comfort a broken heart, or soothe my fears. I came to rely on you, but your intent was never pure.
Being with you was so easy and acceptable. You were always quietly tempting me, disguised in so many forms. No one could see the damage you were causing and the nasty things you were doing to me.
As an adult, you had me firmly in your clutches, showing your dark side now. Hurting me, making me ill, slowly destroying me but all the while making me want you more and more. I didn’t know how I would live without you but I knew I had to.
You almost had me you evil beast! But now I see you, and I know how you would leave me beyond repair if I didn’t break my tie with you. Slowly, little by little you would kill me. An eye first, then a toe, a foot, and when I can no longer move you will pounce and take my heart.
But I see you now and I know your game. I reject you now and call you by name… SUGAR!

IKR, when I first started reading it I thought it was child molester or something like that, much to my surprise, it was something just as bad!

Exactly! When you are awake, you can’t go back knowing what you know.

Very true Storms! You can't unknow something, no more than you can unsee something. And when you see it and know it.....well, it's there forever!

Like many things in life, it is not the sugar itself that is the problem it is the AMOUNT and the FREQUENCY that most Epply overindulge in it that is the problem. Healthier eating most of the time and less healthy or foods less likely to be conducive to achieving and maintaining our goals, just once in a while.

The lady who wrote this is about my age and grew up much like I did, with kool-aide, ding-dongs and twinkies. Huge birthday cakes loaded with buttercream frosting, snickers-bars and cokes, Hawaiian punch, Tang, home baked cookies always in the cookie jar, Halloween trick or treating with gobs of candy, easter baskets loaded with chocolate bunnies and peeps, Cakes, pies and cobblers part of the meal every holiday, bread with every meal. I remember it from a very early age and thought it was normal and ok. When I started having weight problems after my daughter was born in 1983. I had to look closer at my diet that I grew up on. We did not have the resources back then that we have now, confusing though it is. I'm sure I'm not the only one who grew up that way and yes, I feel betrayed by a society who STILL insists that sugar is harmless, even with everything they know today.

Sugar, fat, protein, water, salt— nothing is harmless. Knowledge and common sense are king.

Don’t forget the other difference in our lives back then was the activity component. As kids we played outside all day long — we could officially leave the house when the sun came up and went back to our own neighborhoods when the street lights came on. We were not sitting around binging Netflix or playing on our pieces of technology all day. Activity is a really key component to weight management and a healthier lifestyle. We have to acknowledge what science now knows and make those lifestyle and food choice decisions that we know are in our best interests.
