JennBuck61's Journal, 15 May 2015

So busssssy I did not get a chance to update my journal this morning! Right now I am feeling very lazy because I stuffed my face.

I did not eat until about 4:30 pm today because I was running around getting our pottery from my daughter's birthday pottery making event, picking up some Summer items from a Danish store about 30 minutes away, gassing up the car, getting groceries for the long weekend - and that was after putting in a good several hours of work writing a product offering my company plans to post. I found some Devonshire Cream in the specialty section of my grocery store and I couldn't wait to have it with blackberries this evening. So, after I had 2 pieces of BBQ chicken legs, I made myself a cup of English Breakfast tea and had my berries/cream. So rich, so good - decadence at it's best. I should have stopped eating when I was full but there were about 4 berries left with cream on it and I could not, would not, throw it out - so I ate it. Hence, I feel like a butterball turkey, stuffed and dressed for Thanksgiving. The good thing is that this is all low carb/high fat. The bad thing is that I broke the rule of eating only until you are full. :(

This is a long weekend in Toronto and it kicks off cottage season. It's also the weekend when people typically set up their garden for the Summer. Unfortunately, the weather is rainy and we expect Thunderstorms on Monday so the fireworks may be cancelled. I plan to kick off my garden but let's see how it goes. I bought some outdoor rugs for our back patio but I may not use it this weekend. I think I will do some indoor sprucing up!

Anyway, have a great weekend all!

I had to look up Devonshire Cream - is it sweet on its own or more like whipped cream? people tend to add sweetener when whipping cream. I am just curious since I am doing no dairy right now...

HCB: Devonshire cream is definitely not sweet. It's a very thick cream with a high fat content a minimum of 55%, but an average of 64%); in the United States it would be classified as butter, I think. It has almost a nutty flavour - that's the best way I can describe it. It is also more velvety than butter. Once you open the small container you have to consume it within 5 days - it won't last that long in my house!

Ahhh...interesting. I saw photos that showed it used as a spread so closer to butter makes sense.

I so not believe I have ever seen that cream. I have head of it but never found it. Don't forget to take time for you.

World Market has it? MMM will have to stop in there next weekend, 1/2 price books is nearby and they have 20% off everything in the store for 4 days. I was considering another cookbook or 2 and passed them up, might go back for them.
