I have been learning a lot about fasting and low carb diet. As a scientist, I love reading scientific studies and watching videos of lectures on these topics. I know it isn't everyone's interest but it keeps me motivated.
Saturday, 11/6, will be 8 weeks since I began my fasting and Low carb trial. So far I have lost almost 15# and my BMI has decreased 2.5. I am blown away!
Quite a few years ago, maybe 8?, I joined the group Goal by Birthday. My goal was to weigh 180#. I thought that would be hard work and struggled to get there time and again. I documented every bite every day. I stepped up my activities and was disappointed every time. It was hard work, unpleasant and discouraging.
I know better than ever now that one size does not fit all. Some folks do well with WW,I did not, some do well with calorie counting, I do not. I have found losing weight with fasting to be not uncomfortable and quite easy. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea and for some who get the "keto flu" it is unpleasant for a while. I am so delighted, finally, at age 73 I am able to lose excess weight. Just delighted.
Feel free to ask me any questions you might have

Mondays and Fridays are my fasting days. So, today I have had nothing to eat. I do drink lots of water and tea. I drink tea every day and I love it with sugar and milk. Now, however, I have begun using half and half or cream in my tea since my goal is very low carbs. Of course on my fasting days I don't add anything to my tea. A couple of times when I was fasting early on, I felt a bit unwell so I ate a few pinches of salt in case I was running low. I don't know that it made any difference. I feel fine when fasting now.
I don't feel hungry when I am fasting any more. The first few times I felt very hungry in the evening. Now I find that I think of food sometimes but I just need to find something to do to take my mind off it. I thought I would have trouble falling asleep if I hadn't eaten but since I don't feel hungry I fall asleep easily, same as always.
Overall this feels a bit like a miracle to me. I first joined FS in 2012 or 13 I think. Losing weight has been a struggle for years and I never felt satisfied while doing it. Now I feel full after eating a fatty meal and generally only eat 2 meals a day. It seems so unreal and so easy after decades of trying to lose weight with little success to be losing weight easily and feeling as though I have eaten enough.
Well, enough babbling I just wanted to let folks know that I am still here and, surprisingly succeeding.

I feel as though I am cheating when I eat a fatty meal. It is so satisfying to eat a veg and cheese omelet that is made with cream rather than milk. It feels pretty decadent in my mouth, so creamy. I am able to last all morning and then some. Waiting until early to mid afternoon for my second meal is easy. I don't feel hungry. Who knew that eating what I avoided for so many decades would help me lose weight. An old dog learning new tricks.
Don't overeat, don't snack and eat satisfying meals.
I'm pulling for you all.

Still here. I finished eating at 3 pm yesterday and was pleased with the results this morning. I continue to read more and more about the benefits of fasting. There is a lot of dementia in my family and I am happy to find that fasting can, if not prevent, perhaps slow dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
I continue to be amazed by how much carbohydrates I consume in a day even though I am consciously cutting down. My goal is less than 100 grams daily and it is difficult for this old carbohydrate addicted woman to do. In the past I have tried the Mediterranean diet but found it was like WW and my mind was always on the carbs and how much I could get away with. Just like fasting and choosing not to eat at all from time to time, I am choosing not to eat carbs at all rather than seeing how much I can get away with. For me, just cutting it out is easier than limiting.
Best of luck to all of you and your life of more healthy living.
