Started thinking more seriously about my calorie intake earlier this week, but today marks the start of a controlled and measured diet.

I've never seriously dieted before, though I've followed the vague themes of the GI diet for years. Lately though, I've been far to lax on myself: the odd cake or chocolate has added up on a daily basis, and I peaked at 12½ st at Christmas. Oddly, though I've apparently dropped a little weight since then, I feel fatter now; many of the shirts I used to wear regularly are now stressed around the chest.

Time to get this sorted, hopefully in time for a holiday in July, but I'm going to be realistic! I plan to start regular light exercise with this too. In the past, I think I've exercised too hard, and demotivated myself when I found it too strenuous. This time, I'll start small and build up to a more accomplished level.

Other thing to watch: alcohol intake. I've always thought, perhaps mistakingly, that alcohol itself isn't very calorific, but I'm beginning to think that's wrong. Besides, I tend to drink ales and wine; not the 'slimmest' of drinks! I need to get a handle on my drinking, 'cos it's got a little too frequent lately. I blame my parents!
