I had loads of support for my last journal entry which really surprised me... partly because I had forgotten that the journal was public!! I posted this as a comment but not sure who will see it so I'll make it a new entry:
Thanks for the support everyone! I lost loads of weight a few years ago (23 stone down to 18) but put it all back on, finally getting back to 23 stone in the summer. A month ago I started going to Overeaters Anonymous which is a twelve-step programme just like AA.
The support there is incredible. It's not a diet club but a fellowship of people united around the belief that we can get better.
The other big thing I've been doing - I have a bracelet, like a "friendship bracelet" thing. Every day that I abstain from compulsive eating, I tie a little golden thread onto the bracelet. When I get seven days, I plait them together and put a lettered bead on, gradually spelling out a life mantra that helps me - "The Best is Yet to Come". One day last week I had a wobble, so I wove a white thread into the bracelet for that day. Looking at that bracelet when I feel the urge to eat compulsively rather than when I'm hungry really helps.
