I've been stuck in the same weight spot for three weeks now, even though I've been sticking with my calorie intake plan pretty accurately (that plan being -200 to -500 net every day). I'm trying to stay reasonable about it, even though it's starting to work on my nerves. I know that I've started working out (FINALLY!) and my muscles are very sore and thus retaining a lot of fluid which hinders the dropping of weight. But soon enough I'll start seeing some results.

As for working out, I've tried Insanity for two days and decided it was too much for me right now -- mostly mentally, I guess, but I DO know when to change my path instead of aiming for failure. So instead of working myself out to tears of anger, I put my hands on Slim in 6 with Debbie Siebers and I must say it's pretty nice. The pace is not very fast so it might seem like a low-impact workout but that's not really what it's about. These workouts demand a lot of stamina to finish all the moves in one go. I've already tried two dvds out of three and while they might be monotonous to do for 6 weeks, I think I'll stick with them for the time being and see what changes about my body.

It's quite easy for me, really, this losing weight thing. Once I stick to calorie counting, I rarely exceed 1500 cals per day because I check the foods I eat right away and add them to my fatsecret so that I know how much more I can eat that day OR how much I have to burn if I've overindulged. That is especially easy when I know the foods that I eat and can realistically estimate the amount of cals I'm taking in. The only problem that I seem to have from time to time is eating a food which energetic values I don't know, like yesterday, when I ate six faworki, a traditional polish sweet that is made of white flour mixed with eggs and spirit and deep fried, then topped with powdered sugar. I presumed they are quite high in calories so I didn't eat the whole box (thank god!) but I had no idea that by eating just 6 of them which weigh around 100g (seriously. It's a very light, crispy, crumbly piece of utterly fantastic treat) I consumed 500 cals. Dreadful experience! But actually, no biggie, because I ate them in the evening, when my current cal intake was lower than 1000 (busy day, light foods).

I've also noticed that since I'd started counting calories, I tend to choose my foods more reasonably. I eat clean, so to say. We used to eat more junk food for the last few months, a lot of Chinese and some pizza, even crisps in the evening followed by a bottle of wine. Which is nice from time to time and I do not shudder at a thought that "I've been eating all this junk, yikes!". It's just that I stopped controlling how often this sort of food happens. And so let myself go a little too much. But you can really eat well and eat tasty things, and still get stuffed, just knowing what to avoid and what you can eat in abundance without having to worry it will crash your diet.

I guess everybody has to find their own perfect way to losing weight. Mine seems to be an extended form of control over what I'm eating via calorie counting. Makes me count and think and makes me feel in control of that aspect of my own life (I don't really have a lot of control over other aspects of my life and never felt that I have... should be exercising that aspect too). That is comforting, actually. So instead of turning for comfort to food, I turn for it to counting what I eat.

Now to just add more exercise to that... I'm this sort of skinny fat person and I'd love to get a little less wobbly. I'd love to go out running but my laziness has been telling me "oh, just look at all the snow, better stay at home" for the last two weeks. Gotta fight that attitude. Especially that I really DO like running, when I'm already doing it.
