So I thought having the left over Brazilian Shrimp Stew for lunch (it is spicy) wouldn't have that much of an impact. We had training last night and it was 10pm before I got to bed and 11pm before I fell asleep. 3:30am the super hot flash comes on. After this kind I am wide awake. The alarm was going to go off at 4am (hubby is taking a friend to the airport) vs the normal 4:30am alarm. Once he left I went ahead and ran a mile on the treadmill...get that out of the way. Back to the stew....I am figuring out that spicy foods are reserved for Friday and Saturday nights so I don't feel like crap all day on a work day. I thought eating the stew (it has just a little heat) at lunch wouldn't impact me. Either it did or the hot flashes are getting worse. I will continue to pay attention to my food intake and see if it is something else...maybe it is the addition of dairy back into my diet. Maybe I just need to up my Black Cohosh. Or maybe I just need to go to bed earlier because my body is going to start waking me up at 3:30-3:45am...Lord I hope not!!

So getting the exercise back in and more importantly weight work. Those minutes are the hardest for me just because I have ran already and I want to rest. However, I just say the magical word "osteoporosis" and amazing how it makes me pick the weights up....LOL. The scale this morning. I stepped on it at first and it registered 219#, what the hell!!! I stepped off and back on and it was at 215.4#. Okay that sounds right. I step on it two more times and get two more different readings (216# and then something else) then again I step and it is at 215.4#. So maybe I need to go ahead and get a new battery...just in case. I do realize with the weights and the running there could be even more fluctuations than previously. I am good with that. I will get out a pair of slacks (or something) this weekend and pull them out and see how they fit differently and use that as a base line for when the scale is being uncooperative. However, before working out yesterday I did go pull out a pair of running pants (bought last year at Costco) that didn't fit good and I felt like I kept having to pull them up. Put them on yesterday...fit so much better and ran in them with no problem. Another NSV! Also, last night at the station folks were getting snacks to eat...crackers/cookies and I refrained...another NSV!

Claim all the NSV's, no matter how small they are, claim them because they are yours and you worked for each one of them!! Have a great day.

I think my mantra may be slow and steady. Yesterday, my mode of exercise was shoveling snow. There will be more of that today but also plan on getting in a run and some free weights. I will say that’s the plan as long as my body doesn’t rebel. I ran 2 miles Tuesday and then a 1 mile cool down. I had twinges yesterday on my left side; Doc said that was the side with the most adhesions and endometriosis so I’m sure I had some inflammation going on.

I pulled out a pair of jeans, from back of my closet that I haven’t been able to wear, and slipped them on. NSV! I know from past experience that the scale isn’t the KNOW ALL that we sometimes (many times) think it is. It is a false prophet!

Surgical Menopause I’m doing good over-all. I realize that my hot wings (or anything remotely spicy) needs to be consumed on Friday or Saturday nights. I will be up with intense hot flashes and I’d rather deal with that on nights that I don’t have to start work at 5am the next day.

Time to get to work and then a shovel brake later! Be kind to yourselves!

I expected to see a little uptick on the scale this morning. I ran yesterday, the first time since post-op and not sure how long it had been prior to that. I ran a mile and then got in a good hike for a mile. Afterwards, I did free weights. My arms, shoulders and back are tight today...so yeah I am sure there is water retention going on. It's okay. As I had mentioned this is not a race. This is a lifestyle and I am in it for the long-haul.

It felt good to run...it's been a long time.

My exercise today, first and foremost, will be shoveling snow after work. We have another 8-12" due in tonight and I have a pretty tall berm at my mailbox from the snowplow coming through. Also will do a little clearing at my Jeep. DH did a good job over the weekend, and then today one of the guys across the street took the tractor blade to his parking spot so it is nice and clean.

I need to clear and shovel my car in case we get a dispatch call. We did get one, but it was cancelled. So have my to do list for this afternoon and then I will see how I feel for a run on the treadmill.
