Went to doctor today. (Groan!). My weight was up and my A1C was dangerously high. For the record, I was particularly stressed and binging carbs. I have since gotten control of my eating and steered this boat away from the rocks. My wife and I discussed grocery choices (less carbs, more protein) and I haven't bought any liquor since then. We even discussed walking the dogs... stay tuned!

A solid week of hibernating at home during some chilly, snowy weekends have stopped my progress. Getting back to my 20 minute brunchtime walk to get calories burning before lunch.

Finally turning the boat around after the holidays. More protein, less carbs, some fats. Perhaps a little too much salt (for flavor) still but, with meds, BP remains below stage 1 hypertension. The wife loves to cook our meals and is helping somewhat; she tries to be conscious of the carbs now that I've hammered it home. Unfortunately I do not get actively involved in shopping (Ugh!) so a large percentage of groceries still involve my favorites like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes -- my mortal enemies! It's not her diet so I quietly take responsibility for my own failings but it was so much easier when I lived alone. (Sigh!)
