Since I started this site back on January 2, I have lost 7 pounds. I do very little exercise mainly walking a couple days a week during lunch. My goal is to see if what they say is true. According to the experts you cannot exercise your weight off. It is through diet only, providing you follow LCHF. So far this is proving to be true. I do the walking more for just overall health than as a weight loss tool. I've never been a gym person and probably never will be. I can invest the gym money into more nutritional foods that will give me what I need.

If the experts are correct, I should lose weight to the point where my bodies weight set point is and be able to maintain as long as I follow LCHF. Based on my results so far, it would indicate they are correct. Time will tell though as a long term weight loss being maintained is the real proof.

Now knowing all of this, the rest of the week is going to be a challenge. I've had a death in the family so I will be traveling over the weekend from Thursday through Sunday. Being able to stay tuned into what I need to eat vs what is available will be the real challenge. I expect I will gain a few back, but I'm ok with it since I know this up front. Wish me luck!

Shirataki Noodles

in my quest to lose weight and eat LCHF I am always on the lookout for replacement foods. This is mainly for my wife and son. My wife is finally on board with LCHF and is giving it a real try. My son is just picky. We have always been pasta lovers and losing pasta was a big blow to our normal dinner menu. So I have been searching for something I could use to replace it.

Enter Shirataki noodles. These are awesome! They have 0g carbs and 0 calories. What's not to like about that? I made them for the first time last night for spaghetti and meatballs. The texture at first was kind of weird. Almost gummy like. But as I continued to eat them I got used to it rather quickly. I had 7oz of noodles along with organic sauce and homemade meatballs. My dinner came out to about 450 calories. Imagine if I had used pasta for this meal how high that count would have been.

So if you are a pasta lover like we are, giver these noodles a try. You may just find yourself planning more spaghetti dishes once again!

I decided to take a look back at my meals over the past month. I was surprised at the amount of carbs I was consuming even though I thought I was doing well. Carbs are sneaky little things! Most of my carb intake happens with either dinner or later when I get the munchies. Most of the time I am under 10g of carbs by dinner. But something as small as a starlight mint can send me over 20g! I've decided that while calories are a nice way to see how I am doing, it is really the amount of carbs that make the difference.

I correlated my diet to my weight loss and found that the days when I consumed lower amounts of carbs, the weight came off. On days where it was higher I either stayed level or gained a few ounces. Now more than ever I realize the low carb truly is the answer. I know for me it is even more critical that I closely monitor my carb intake and learn exactly what foods to avoid. It's the small things that sneak in a ruin an otherwise great daily diet!

I am no longer doing the "net carb" thing. I want my total carb intake less then 20g per day. It will be interesting to see how much of a change I see and how quickly. If you are struggling with losing, take a hard look at your carb intake. Make sure you know exactly where they are coming from so you can avoid my mistakes.
