My name is Caran and I'm a 39yr old mom of two boys (8&5). I've been married for 9 years! I never had a weight issue as a child. It wasn't until my dad passed away 12 yrs ago that I started gaining weight, with most of it from having kids. After having my youngest I developed severe plantar facitis in both feet and had to limit walking. Last year, I had surgery on one leg/foot, and since then have had no pain. So now I walk more, but now everything else hurts! =)

I was recently diagnosed with low thryoid, which explained why no matter what I did to lose wieght, it wasn't working. I've finally found a dosage that seems to be working, so my energy levels are higher, so I can walk more now. yeah!

Ultimately I want to loose 125lbs, but I am starting with small goals. I don't want to get overwhelmed.
And that is me! =)

Synthroid and weight loss or gain
I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was prescribed Synthroid. I have done a bit of reading on this medicine and have seen a few people actually gain weight while using this.

I've been on this med for at least a month, and I have lost no weight. I have actually gained 5 pounds. I talked to my dr, and she basically blew me off saying my body was still getting used to the meds.

Can anyone share their experiences with this medicine and weight loss? Right now I'm pretty depressed that I'm gaining weight, and it seems nothing will help me. (except meds called Armour that my insurance will not cover).

Thanks,

Frustrated with RDI amount
Thank you all. I'm going to check out that calculater now and see what it says. I will also verify that I chose to lose weight rather than maintain on my profile. Wink

Frustrated with RDI amount
So for the past 2 months I have been eating about 1700-1900 calories and have lost 2 pounds. (i know why only 2 pds were lost, thyroid issues).

Last week I officially joined FS and the system said for my weight (257) and age (38 ) and activity level(low) I should be consuming 2300 calories a day. Does that seem like alot?

So this past week, I've been eating as close to 2300 as I can, and guess what? I gained weight! Like 2 pounds!

I'm not eating crap, so I guess I'm just confused. Should I stick with FS's RDI, or go back to my 1900 realm?

Thanks!
