My name is Andrea, and I'm a 30 year old mother of 2 boys, 4 and 2. I lost my job in March (business closed) so I am returning to school to pursue a degree in nursing. I'm extremely nervous about going back,(went for 6 years from 2000-2006)and with no income on my end things are going to be pretty tight for my family. But I'm crossing my fingers my decision to return and finally earn a degree (too many aimless years at community college = a lot of debt but no bachelors degree!) will pay off in the end.

How many calories a day?
I seem to reach my carb intake with about 1100 - 1200 calories too. I try to add meat items that are high in calories and low in carbs and I have more than the 4 oz serving. I also have canned tuna with some mayo and put it on a big piece of lettuce. Or even steaks or chicken. Sausages (usually turkey or chicken) too but they always seem to have a carb or two in them. As to your question, I don't think you have a set amount of calories per day if you're getting enough nutrition and eating the right carbs and enough veggies.

Am I too heavy to jog?
What is good running form? I haven't been thinking of that aspect except to put one foot in front of the other and repeat.

Am I too heavy to jog?
For a quick fix, a friend of mine is going to give me an elyptical, I imagine it will be much lower impact. As for shoes, I did think it would be okay since I make a large (relatively I suppose) loop and stay on carpet in my house so I thought no shoes would be ok. When I get up the courage the go outside I'll definitely wear my running shoes

Am I too heavy to jog?
I've been jogging for about a month now, working my way up from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. My first week I did have to start really slow because I felt like my left calf was constantly about to get a charly horse. I got through that and haven't had any problems, but now my left ankle (outer/top of ankle) hurts whenever I start to run. I'm even limping while walking. I gave it 2 days of no jogging and my ankle has felt better but not even 1 minute into it this morning and the pain is back. So my plan for 45 minutes jogging turning into 10 with hardly a sweat. I was wondering if I'm putting too much weight on my ankles and that is whats causing my pain. Should I push through it maybe? By the way, I jog inside my house on carpet without shoes.

Instant gratification no more
I usually add a couple hundred calories a day just for things like licking my fingers after making my kids pb&j's and what not. I have been trying to write down every single thing I eat (only drink water and if I have a glass of milk I add it). I do understand Ambtreh that I have to account for height, weight, etc and came up with around 2000 calories, based of 5 days a week of moderate exercise. Also that number would be lowered as more weight is lost of course. I just have to stick with it!! Thanks for the advice guys!
