losing 0.4 lb a week
11 June 2014
On June 4th, 2014, I got a call requesting me to come into the clinic to have a fasting blood test completed. I had been having re-occurring yeast infections since Jan. and we have tried every medications so they were checking other options. I went in on June 5th at 8 am did my test and went into work. At 10:15 am the clinic doctor called and was panicked and told me I needed to get into the doctor or I would be admitted because my blood sugar counts were 342 and my A1C was 12.8.
I then called the doctor and got in that morning. He informed me that I had become diabetic and would need insulin shots if we couldn't control it. So they nurse took my levels again and it was 285. They put me on a 1800 calorie diet, but told me the most important was carbohydrates.I was to have 45 grams or 3-4 points (divide grams by 15 to get points)per meal, 3 times a day and 1 snack at 1 point or 15 grams.
Since this day and the shock of it all (a week ago), I have embraced my inner rabbit and started eating a ton of salads and chicken. Taking my levels 2 to 3 times a day and I have only had 2 readings that were above 300 since my start day last Thursday.
I am on 1 glipizide pill in the morning before breakfast. Then I am taking 1 500 mg of metformin 2 times a day with meals. I am then to check my sugar at varied times of the day.
I will return to the doctor with my weekly logs for 2 weeks on the 19th. I am monitoring my food intake, my carbohydrates, my medications, and my sugar and times it is taken.
I know my biological father and paternal grandmother were both diabetic,my mother in law is also and I found out my step dad is type 1 and just found out. At work I have about 6 people that are also and they are a great support group. I am glad I found this site, it will help me to work out some of my diet and meal issues.
