Good morning everyone,

It's been a long time since I've weighed in and I've not been good at all with recording what I'm eating. So much goes on in the warmer months and sometimes the food choices are just shameful. I've continued to stick fairly closely to my plan though I'll admit that some birthday celebration dinners, holiday meals and camping cuisine have been in there too. Then again, there's more swimming and mowing, horseback riding and Frisbee, so hopefully it all works out in the end. I'm still making progress, slow though it be. We've got another trip coming up and then several camping trips after that so my plan is to make the best choices possible given each circumstance. I am not going to try to record everything since keeping electrical devices with me at all times just isn't an option in these situations. Hopefully I'll continue to get healthier, I'll certainly be trying to make healthier decisions.

Have a great day everyone and much luck!

Ok so I've been recording as I was supposed to but haven't been logging my weight in as I should. So often lately I've been out to eat with family or off on adventures where my little black cheat bag just wasn't an option. Heck, just yesterday was Homecoming at church and like all gatherings, there were all sorts of delicious foods there but very few that were meant to be diet friendly. I did small portions of everything and was full enough at the end of the day that I could round off my appetite with a couple of apples so I didn't feel guilty but I have to admit that the slow down in my weight loss is my fault.

It may too be in part to the fact that I've stopped going to the nutritionist. Well really, perhaps I shouldn't be calling her that since more and more often I was being guided away from real food and towards her supplement products. I started this journey with the intention of becoming healthier in a sustainable manner. Weaning myself from real food and relying entirely on supplements purchased only through her just isn't my idea of sustainable. After she cut my food back again and upped the supplements more the last time, I started having significant trouble with my diverticulitis. It took almost a week of absolutely no protein drinks at all before I started feeling myself again. That was the wake up call. I avoided having part of my intestines removed the last time I was in the hospital, now my goal is to avoid the hospital.

So with that said, the weight is still coming off slowly and I'm ok with that. I feel better, I'm starting to have to put some clothes aside because they're now too big and I'm starting to feel more energized. I hope everyone else is making good progress too.

Have a great day all!

This has been a tough week for weight loss. After helping my sister and her family with the loss of their Boxer, our family then had to deal with the death of my parents' German Shepherd. Both dogs had lived long lives with much love and I know moved on to a better place, but the losses remind me of so many other losses in the past. Both of these were good girls whom I helped care for through the many years. They were loved, they loved and either would have given their lives in protection of the families they cared for. Add to these the Easter holiday, working at the lake to help Mom, trying desperately to get everything done at my house in preparation for a trip next week and a work related situation that has leaked over into my evenings and weekends and you've got a recipe for an awful diet. That said, I'm still trying. Hardly dropped anything this week but anything is good as long as the weight doesn't start climbing again.

Here's to a better week ahead and much support to everyone out there. Happy munching folks!

Alright, not bad! I really tried hard this weekend to stick to my plan and while I did have some slips, I still managed to stay close to target and dropped a bit more.

I have to say that Friday was scary. I had a blood sugar crash I wasn't at all expecting. It's been a really long time since it's hit like this, in fact, the last time was years ago and I woke up in the hospital. Since then, I knew what I was dealing with and have been able to control my hypoglycemia with my diet. This time, I had no warning, wasn't anywhere close to being hungry and was actually drinking a protein shake while fixing my dinner when the wave of nausea hit and moments later, I was on the ground. For those of you that have blood sugar issues, you know that when something like this happens, you just don't think straight. Well I wasn't thinking right at all, Liz kept suggesting the go to fixes that I'd used in the past which were all good options, OJ, Peanut Butter Crackers... everything she came up with, I could only focus on the fact that they weren't allowed during the cleansing part of my program. Yup, makes perfect sense when you're in the process of passing out to worry about whether or not your rescue food is organically produced, additive clean and within the dietary scope of your weight loss process. LOL A couple teaspoons of Acacia honey and a glass of skim milk got me off the floor and then a good, high protein dinner of roasted chicken, onions and squash leveled me out but it took a good day to come back 100%.

Needless to say, I discussed this with the nutritionist and she was rightly concerned. Since she has the same issue, I felt comfortable talking to her about it and she understands my need for those quick fixes in case of emergencies and of course, supported every choice my sister had tried suggesting.

My program remains much the same, higher protein than anything else... I'm personally aiming for the 50% mark on my RDI pie chart, though rarely do I actually do that well. Carbs and Fats should each be in the 25% range or less depending on how my protein consumption goes. Dropping the sweet tea has been a huge help with this since I was drinking massive quantities of calories all day with no nutritional benefit. The protein supplements have been a big help too. While I can get them online through Amazon, I've not seen this brand in stores and since I get to sample them if I buy them through the nutritionist, that's what I do. The protein supplements are by Health Wise and the protein powder is PlantFusion Lean. Some of the supplements have been too sweet for me, so Julie (my nutritionist) has allowed me to trade those in and try out other items. I think that's a fairly neat deal! Since I've never found a protein powder that I can stomach, I usually hate the taste, the fact that I was able to mix a glass of this stuff the first night with just ice and water and drink it without gagging was totally unexpected. I've since started adding ingredients (cocoa, fruit, peanut powder, skim milk, vanilla, cinnamon) so I'm not just swallowing the same stuff over and over again. Really, to do this on the cheap, folks could just start adding some gelatin powder to all their drinks and get much the same protein increase but the mixes are already palatable and easy so with my schedule and all the time crunching I do, they work for me.

OK, that's way more than I'd meant to write so I'll end it here. I hope everyone is doing well out there in the FS world... you've got this!

Have a great day and munch happy!
