I’m fasting! I decided that an intermittent fast might benefit me. If I fast weekly, I hope it will keep my eating on track because my portion sizes tend to increase with time and I have been making fast food exceptions more. After 24-hours of not eating, ½ cup of this and 3 oz. of that should seem sufficient. I read that a fast resets the body; I’ll see. I chose a 24-hour fast beginning Sunday at 6 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. on Monday. Eventually I think I will do two of these fasts each week if they work for me, but for this week I will ease into it and do just one day. My last meal was yesterday (Sunday) at 4:30 p.m. so I am at hour 19. Although I stopped eating at 4:30 p.m., I will continue the fast until 6:00 p.m. I have had two episodes of feeling hungry today, but I am sipping on bottles of water with sugar-free drink mix. I am going to stay at work so I will not get home before 6:00 and drive home with my eyes closed so I won't see fast food restaurants. My inner voice: "I can do this. I can do this. I can do this."

Today is my birthday and my present is that I don't have an urge to go out and eat a bunch of calories. Since I broke my addiction to carbs, I don't live from day to day searching for reasons to break my diet. It's not even a diet anymore, it's just the way I eat. When I do go beyond my carb tolerance, I begin to feel what I used to think was hunger (intense pangs)but is really just a carb craving. Eating carrots and cucumbers did nothing to satisfy this feeling, my body wanted mega doses of carbs. I am happy and grateful that I have arrived in this place in my life.

I had eaten well all week until yesterday. Yesterday I needed food and didn't have time for healthy choices, so I ate fried food (chicken, shrimp, cheese sticks) from Walmart's food bar. Don't judge me, it tasted good at the time :-) It didn't seem to do too much damage. I'm having a hard time finding food to keep with me which doesn't need refrigeration and isn't a high-carb bar. Any suggestions?
