Well, I gained some weight this week.

I was fully expecting to!

I ate lots of chips, loads of cookies, and an entire pizza.

Sigh.

This week I'm planning to skip the junk food and go back to a pretty basic concept: FOOD IS FUEL.

Food should not be used for anything but fuel and occassionally celebrating. There is nothing to celebrate this week (I'm obviously not a father, so no father's day goodies for me!) so this week food will be fuel.

No point in eating things like chips and cookies when their nutritional profile really doesn't help with feuling my body now, does it?

Here's what I'm planning to eat this week:

whole grains- oats, barley, brown rice

beans- black, kidney, garbanzo

vegetables and fruits- all sorts! Mostly fresh but with a few canned tomatoes and frozen broccoli

healthy fats- avocadoes, peanut butter, almonds, olive oil

processed foods- Lara Bars, Boca burgers, tortillas, Wasa flatbread crackers

I'm also going to keep up my exercise routine! This week's eating and exercise should get me back.

OF COURSE, just as a reminder to myself and to you: I'm still in my goal weight range of 142-146, just barely. :-) So not much harm was done. Plus, with the chips that I ate late last night, there's a good chance that at least a bit of this gain is water weight.

I'm no discouraged at all, just moving on to healthier eating this week!

Intuitive Eating is going really well! The only thing is that I feel as if I'm getting too loosey-goosey with healthy choices vs. unhealthy choices.

So this week, I'm going to make a point to eat at least 80% healthy. I know that sort of goes against IE, but I truly do feel better when I eat more whole foods as opposed to packaged junk.

In weight loss news: I'm down 1.2 this week! After last week's .6 gain, this is excellent news! I'm definately learning how much food my body needs to stay within the 4 pound range (I'm trying to maintain between 142 and 146).

I'm doing terribly on my own FS challenge- 30 Days of Exercise. I keep on doing 6/7 days a week, which is GREAT, but not what the challenge says. Oh, well. I suppose that I will try to get in all 7 days this week again.

I hope that all of my buddies are doing great on your diets and in your lives.

I've decided to start keeping an Intuitive Eating food journal while I learn to honor my hunger (principle 2 of IE).

This journal is for hunger purposes only, not to judge myself for what foods I choose. I'm really trying to learn my hunger signals, and it's kind of difficult.

I'm using a hunger scale model that goes from 1-10, 1 being so starving/ravenous that it hurts, and 10 being so uncomfortably full that I'm sick. I will be trying to stay between 3 and 7 (5 being perfectly satisfied, not hungry or full.)

Here's what I have so far for today:

8:30am (hunger at 3)- oatmeal w/ amond milk, applesauce, and peanut butter (hunger at 5)

10:30am- still at 5!
10:45am- down to 4...
11:00am (hunger at 3) Lara Bar (hunger at 5)

12:45pm (hunger at 3.5)- watermelon, leftover beans and rice (hunger at 5)

2:15pm- hunger from 5 to 4...
2:30pm- hunger dwon to 3, time to eat!

I have a banana, some more watermelon, a brownie flavored protein bar, and a packet of craisins to choose from. I'm going for the watermelon because it's SO GOOD!!!

:-) And that's how IE is working for me today. I'm loving keeping the hunger food journal, and will keep it up until I've really learned my hunger signals.

I just thought that I would share it with you guys, in case anyone was wondering how I'm doing with IE so far.
