13 December 2012

For my first journal entry I will tell you abit about myself: I am a 40 year old mom of two beautiful girls, 17 and 14. I have been married to one of the most wonderful men in the world for 17 years; he is my world and my rock. I didn’t really have a major weight issues until my late 20s, where I became seriously ill and gained 40 pounds in 3 months. I spent the next 10 or so years in a constant yoyo and struggle to keep my weight under control (plus a pregnancy). I bounced between 170-230lbs. Five years ago, I was on a down swing I had lost 24lbs (down to 203) and I hit a plateau. At this point in time, I was back in college and had a lot on my plate, so I took to maintaining for abit. Once my diet went back to usual faire, pounds started to creep back quickly; soon I was into the 230s. So I got back to it, eating right and exercise but something was different. I was by the book with my eating/water and I was working out 6 days a week for 1-1 1/2 hours. I was busting my butt, I wasn’t losing anything. After a month, I managed a 2.5 lbs loss. I was so upset and discouraged. I had to be doing something wrong, tried to figure out what I was doing to sabotage my progress… I, needless to say, stopped exercising. This time I grew to my heaviest, 252. Tried to motivate myself to do it again and again and over the next few years but it was getting me nowhere but in lots of physical pain, fatigue and disappointment. I talked with my doctor about it all and he chalked it up to “cut back on calories.” (Really? I already did 1200-1300 daily) Anyway, I found a new doctor in May of this year…she ran the gamut for tests on me...It was discovered that I had developed hypothyroidism. A felt a ton relief and fear. Wow! I wasn’t really crazy…and on the other hand what does this all mean for me. Well, I went straight home and did tons of research…Knowledge is power! My diagnoses explained a lot, well actually everything I had been going though the few years. My diagnosis has given me a piece of my life back. I will end with that for now, until tomorrow, take care and be blessed.
