kaz_12's Journal, 15 April 2010

Yesterday was my rest day. When you have a little extra time because you don't do exercise, guess what happen? I ate over RDI, and my weight went up slightly. Oops! It's about the "time", and I feel bloated too. I know "rest day" doesn't mean you cannot do anything, so I should do walking or schedule some home-project to do on a rest day.

You have the right mind set! On my "off" days I am usually off because I am too busy to fit it in. Like this weekend, I will drive 3 hours, watch baseball games all day, go to the park with the kids, drive 3 hours back home and I will be exhausted. My plan is to keep my metabolism going and I should be ok. Now on the other hand, if I lay on the couch and pop popcorn, I will gain lol! That is just the proverbial "common sense" that I hate when it comes to eating healthy and exercising to lose weight. If you do yard work that is definitely exercise. It may not be cardio, but it is for sure toning. I try to wak every single day at least 30 minutes. Most days I get in an hour. Thursdays are busy for me, so I get the 30 minutes in at lunch and in the evening I am too busy, so instead of another 30 minute walk, I do 45 minutes of pilates just before bed. It relaxes me and I never feel like I am exercising when I do pilates, but it tones you all over!

My dilemma is that I love to read books on my rest-day because workout day gives me less time to read. However, if I read a book, there is a great risk for temptation of snacking to creep up on me. When the book is good, I don't think about food at all. On the other hand, I feel like to grab something to eat when the book is slow to me. So, the latter happened yesterday while I was reading "Marcelo in the Real World". When I was reading "Graceling" last week, I almost forgot to eat. It's hard to keep well-balanced lifestyle and hobbies at same time!
