Well, my attempt at taking up running has failed. I've been working at it for almost a year and it's just not working. Lately my knees are sore after every run and I just started getting shin splints. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong but I don't know what and even if I figure it out, something else will come up.

I enjoyed the aerobic challenge of it and was making progress, but my legs don't seem to be up for it. I'll have to find something else to replace it. I'm thinking maybe weights. I'm still doing the swimming and looking at joining a team. Have already joined at cycling team/club so I'm looking forward to rides with them. I'm disappointed about the running but it's just not working for me and I'm not up for risking a long term injury to do it.
211.2 lb Lost so far: 0.8 lb.    Still to go: 11.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I have heard that shin splints can be caused by the type of shoes you are wearing, the knee thing, well that's the nature of the beast and running is really hard on the joints. Have you thought about maybe taking some glucosamine? I have heard it can really help with joint function and pain.
