Serenitydee's Journal, 21 May 2017

I realised yesterday that the sugar content in this diet the doctor was recommending was off the scales. Luckily I record everything in here. My sugar that I had been getting from normal healthy food had quadrupled. I was experiencing massive headaches, shaking, anger that I couldn't understand, I couldn't stand still or concentrate on anything. My diet was working well, I'd just caught a bug or virus Easter Saturday. Having the colonoscopy and endoscopy has cleaned everything out and it was settling nicely before this diet. Solution. Scrap the diet. The symptoms I was exhibiting reminded me of students at school with ADHD. It gave me a huge insight to how they feel which i am taking as a positive from all of this. Unfortunately it has further disillusioned me regarding the medical fraternity. This diet may be good for some, but I cannot eat citrus which seems a huge part of it, and I am not used to any processed sugar. I refuse to put huge quantities of that substance into my body again. The shakes have settled nearly overnight. I can still feel a slight headache. I'll continue on my own diet and hopefully my weight will start to drop again later this week. Interesting to note, my neck increased 2 cm this week. It's swollen. I can feel it and see it. In fact I have retained fluids all over by the look of it except my hips and my right leg and arm which have lost 1.5 cm each. Everything else increased by a couple of cm. Crazy stuff that sugar. Especially processed sugar. So as to the referral to a dietician, at this stage I'm going to hold that at arms length and give myself a month to see if everything settles. Then I'll go and see her or a naturopath. The low FODMAP diet may be good for some, but not me. Interesting that the alternative foods are high in either processed or natural sugar. Maybe the citrus content that I can't eat makes the difference. I will however reduce things like onions in my diet as they irritate the bowel more. Stay tuned.
