slimmy10's Journal, 03 January 2017

I've gained far too many (about 6) lbs over the last 5 weeks, and am soooo feeling it in my clothes :( I was fitting into a size 10 jeans for the first time in about 9 years, now i'm back up to a 12! I didn't realise 6lbs could make such a difference. Back on it today. I did very well yesterday until my partner mentioned an Indian for tea. DOH.
139.8 lb Lost so far: 13.2 lb.    Still to go: 13.8 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

Bad partner! Actually, I find a good curry is acceptable within a balanced diet - once in a while doesn't hurt and can help psychologically.

I love a good Indian meal. My downfall there is the naan though. You'll get back your progress, it will just take a little while but you've done it before. All the best!

Thanks both. I don't take much convincing when it comes to takeaway curry! Fortunately we live in the country and can't have it delivered. So it's rare we have takeaway. It's too easy to overeat on reasonably healthy foods in our house though, such as cheese, coleslaw, bread. I am going to start eating meals off small plates again and replacing 3/4 of the carbs (spaghetti, potatoes) with salad. It worked last time.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I just make sure that anything green I eat vastly outweighs anything else - lettuce, cucumber, sprouts, beans, cabbage, etc. Works for me although it's a little odd! Could sit here and think of Hash Jal Fry for hours now . . .

If you make your own curries like I do, try puréed red peppers instead of tomatoes to cut down the carbs (if that's your thing). You can also pad curries out with less traditional veg such as fennel or celery rather than okra or potato which helps with carbs too. Aubergine of course is traditional and makes a lovely sauce that's low in carbs and calories. Cauliflower rice is genuinely a good alternative to standard, especially with a curry - just blitz a head of cauliflower in the food processor until grain-like then steam or stir fry until soft. Or just roast the cauliflower florets with a bit of oil and spices. It's done when you have slightly charred bits at the edges. Have fun!

Thank you for the advice! Yes, when I lost weight in 2016 I gave up bread completely for 3 weeks and ate small brown loaf after that. I've eaten loads of white bread in the last couple of months, so cutting the carbs down a bit definitely works for me. Havent eaten white bread for 4 days now. Going to try the cauliflower rice!
