Being diabetic is a pain in the butt. I have to make sure I eat enough carbs to stay upright but not so many as to make me sick. Still recovering from colostomy reversal so many good diet type foods are still off the table. It seems like if it's soft and tastes good it's loaded with calories and carbs.

If you are taking any Blood Glucose medications on a set schedule, this is may be why you have not yet been able to reverse your Diabetes (aside from the recent surgery limiting foods). When you drastically reduce your carb intake, you have lower blood sugar....when you combine this with artificially lowering your blood sugar through medication you find yourself in a low blood sugar range and need sugar to boost back up. Remember, Carbohydrate intake is completely unnecessary for the body to operate normally and efficiently. So remember....when you reduce your carbs, check your blood sugar more often, ideally you want number down to under a 100. Good Luck!!

Very good information here for the novices, like myself. I've had to lower my insulin units to accommodate my new eating habits. Under the advice of my educators and nutritionists. I still struggle some, but trying to keep carbs around 50 / day. Blood sugars are averaging 82. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Very helpful.

Dr. Jason Fung has had tremendous success with reversing Type II Diabetes with a Low Carb High Fat Diet, and Intermittent Fasting. Being on pills or Insulin is a crutch, not a cure. Your Pancreas has excess fat surrounding it, preventing Insulin from reaching the blood stream...as the fat increases you graduate from pills to direct shots of Insulin. The role of Insulin is to remove the sugar from the bloodstream and store as Fat. In less than a month of less than 30gms Net Carbs, you should be able to lower your blood sugar and reverse insulin resistance.

Hi Sarah 1950 thanks for the information about carbs. Everything I have read indicated a minimum for carbs of 50g - 60g per meal. 50g - 60g per day would be so much easier. I am planning to ask my doctor about reducing my medications. I have been dangerously low 2.2 (normals are between 4 and 8) and this happens midday as a rule. Sometimes in the middle of the night, but mostly around/after noon. I check my sugar as many as 10 times a day on those days. I am still trying to focus on how I feel when it drops or goes up. I find that I have very little memory yet. I hope this will improve as surgery becomes a thing of the past.

Please be careful with your insulin levels. I am not going to tell you that your Type Two Diabetes can be reversed but yes you can help alleviate the condition with diet changes, regular exercise and taking your meds. I don't know where you live in the U.S. but I can recommend a couple of easy to cook and very tasty(as well as soft) vegetables to consider. Mexican Squash and Chayote which is also known as mirleton in the New Orleans area. Chayote tastes sweet but does not spike sugar, but of course as you well know, eat to your meter. My guess is it will not effect you. The squash tastes a little sweet as well, same thing as chayote. I love it when my girlfriend gives me fried eggs and bacon with those two also on the plate! I wish you all the best.

Type II Diabetes has two components, High Blood Sugar and Insulin Resistance. Reducing carbs will bring blood sugar back to normal levels and will in most cases resolve issues with insulin resistance. For those that are still left with insulin resistance, Intermittent Fasting (IF) has been successful in reversing insulin resistance in cells.
