mkhouston's Journal, 30 March 2015

I changed to Atkins (2003) because I know people who have been on it long-term and it has worked wonders for them. I have been on it since the end of January, and it has worked very well for me, also. I have more energy, I am losing body fat, and I am happier. This is no temporary solution for me. Atkins has 4 stages. I am currently in the Induction Phase (the first and most carbohydrate-restrictive phase -- 20 g or less of carbohydrates per day). Contrary to what many people think, Atkins does allow people to consume vegetables during the Induction phase -- in fact, he encouraged it (as long as the vegetables are low-glycemic and have significant fiber content). When I reach my goal weight I will gradually add back some carbohydrates (except refined sugars or high-sugar fruits and vegetables) until I reach a point at which I stop losing, and then I will know how many grams of carbohydrates I can consume and maintain my desired weight.
