While it might look at first glance as though I am losing weight at an alarmingly unhealthy rate, it just isn't so. I just bought a new scale today and this is the initial weigh-in with the new device. I wish that I could go back and change my initial weight here, but I can't figure out how to. So it would seem that my old scale was indeed garbage, but the good news is that I don't have to lose as much as I thought in order to reach my goal.
