3camica3's Journal, 25 August 2019

So, I've been in the 300s for most of my life. I can't remember not being fat. The lowest I can remember being was 265 ish. Even at 265 I wore the same clothes. Yes, they fit better and yes I felt better. The thing is, I'm scared. I have never been a healthy weight and I don't know what it'll look like for me. That unknown is terrifying to me. I'm also afraid of the loose skin. I know I'll have it and that scares me. How do I stop being worried about those things?

You can always have a procedure done to get rid of loose skin. The most important thing is to focus on your health. If you eat right and exercise (cardio and weights), you will lose weight at a good speed, and that will give your body (and skin) enough time to change. Also, there are some foods/vitamins you can have to help skin elasticity (just do a quick google search). For now, try to stay positive by making simple changes every day that make you proud of yourself. Today, I started walking 1 mile. I didn’t want to do it at all, but I forced myself to. Now, I feel much better that I did it and am proud of myself.

You being here for yourself is a great step. You will learn so much. We all do different things or a mix of it all. I know what 269 feels like. Coming here was the absolute best decision I ever made🤗🙌🙌 it’s not easy at first, but the support here is amazing. For me logging everything made a huge difference. It’s not for everyone. For me I look super forward to it. If you keep on trying, then you got this.

I have loose skin. I look a hell of a lot better with loose skin than I did at 296 pounds. And I feel better.and I'm not walking around naked so most of my loose skin is just for me. Don't make excuses. Just do it. People will tell you to go slow to minimize it. I lost 115 pounds over 4 years (pretty slow) and still had a lot of loose skin. What is more important to you? And yes... If you're not a scaredy cat like me...surgery is an option.

Write out what worries you. Then ask what you will gain by losing weight and compare the pros and cons list.

I definitely have loose skin as well. I use a hydrating but also firming lotion daily. Don’t focus on the loose skin friend. Let’s just get healthy together and worry about the loose skin later ❤️💕💪

@jcmama777 Thank you! I do need to focus on the process and getting healthy instead of focusing on what scares me. I do find that logging my food makes a difference. I ate one starburst today and I logged it. Lol

@AlyGr You are right. I need to stay positive and focus on my health. I'm happy for you that you got in a mile. :) Keep it up.

@FullaBella I like that idea. I shouldn't really have to do that but I'm a stubborn person. Maybe seeing it written out like that will help it sink in that this is all for the greater good and help me stay motivated.

@davidsprincess I'm glad you feel that way. We all have our own struggles. How I view myself is one of mine. I hope if I can stick to this journey and see it through that my view of myself will change. I hope I can focus on the good I've done for myself. I'm not sure why you feel that my fear is an excuse. An excuse is a reason you give up. I have not given up.

Guess I wrongly assumed you were trying to have a reason why you wouldn't get to a healthy weight. My bad. Best wishes. Don't give up! (I struggle with how I view myself, too. I am glad I am viewing 100 pounds less of me than my highest- but I hear ya!)

we're all afraid of something some of us it's what my skin look like after we lose the weight what will I look like when I see you look Tractive or pretty right now I've lost 21 pounds I'm 62 years old I was in a car accident 11 years ago I lost use of my right arm and you used my right lung I went from a vibrant 55 Broad wearing stiletto heels and a body to kick ass from here to California now I'm 5 3 and 1/2 my arms and constant pain and just hangs I'm on an oxygen to and I went from an ideal weight of 175 to 2:30 my skin hangs I wave goodbye and I keep doing it I'm leaving think but you know what kind of God women like us we can do this Christopher Jordan for us not for what other people think what you think of yourself and how I see myself. I wish you all the success and health and happiness in the world you're going to achieve what you want don't be afraid of fear you have nothing to fear but the word fear itself I learned a long time ago after the accident and all the anger I had is really fear something about be well

You're welcome. I suggested the list because the part of your post that stood out to me is your mention of fear i.e., fearing what you'll look like. Change can be paralyzing for some. You've started this journey for a reason. I am not going to assume your body at 312 is limiting but if it is, as it was for me, be sure to add flexibility in bending, standing, leaning over, etc., to the pro side of the list. This morning I leaned over and used the lever to adjust a car seat manually - 50+ lbs ago I would not have been able to do that.

The biggest question to ask yourself is 'what will you gain when you lose' - and there are plenty of members here sharing their non scale victories to help you realize some things you hadn't considered yet. Loose skin is a fair trade off for improving your health and longevity.

There is a song called "Fear Is A Liar" that I think I need to listen too everyday. I think it would help when i get too stuck in my own head. @mslaurajune I'm so sorry you went through all that. I'm so glad you have overcome that anger. Thank you for the words of encouragement. You sound like an amazing lady. I wish you all the best. @FullaBella I do have issues with change. I always have. I've been pretty lucky that I don't feel too limited by my body. I would like to do yoga without my gut getting in the way though. LOL I'm 5'9 and carry mostly in my stomach. I think it's a great idea to acknowledge the non scale victories. I have noticed people posting about their's lately. I actually have things I hope will improve so I need to remember to post those when/if they happen and be thankful. I am glad I'm here and getting encouragement from you all. I hope I can return the favor.
