Ok y’all. I am gonna need some pointers. I’ve been doing this keto style so far. But I was just diagnosed with severe gastritis (inflammation and erosion of stomach lining) and I’m being told that I can’t do high fat anymore. I will still be in ketosis, but via protein and lack of carbs. So how am I going to get my body to burn the fat if I can’t fuel it with fat? This is going to be a big adjustment for me. Any suggestions? Can’t have citrus or spicy or fatty foods. Even green tea, which I use daily for water retention, is a no-no. Ugh! But, YAY for the drop!

I would ask my doctor to suggest a diet to follow. I try to follow an anti inflammation diet which my doctor suggested and I also found online. Mostly plant based, limit or eliminate processed foods, including processed meat.

May I ask what were your sources of dietary fat and how do you measure ketones?

Thanks everyone. I’m already seeing a dr and have been on his diet for almost three weeks. It’s working, and not super high in fat, BUT I was adding a little extra to give my body more fuel. But now I’ll have to eliminate all things fatty. Which means reducing olive oil and coconut oil as well. I just don’t know how I’m going to get the good fats in now. My follow up is next Friday so I’m just trying to limp along til then.

@jaymany I don’t eat bread, pasta, potatoes, sugar, etc. None at all.

Can you have the good fats? Like avocado and nuts?

Been Keto/LCHF since 2017. I get my fats from Greek yogurt, nut butters, avocado, some cheese, and usually no more than 2 tbs of butter or healthy oils. I don’t really eat a lot of fatty meats, 80/20 ground beef is as fatty as I go, chorizo, and chicken thighs. Dairy can be inflammatory for many people. Remember the body will use body fat as fuel if you don’t overdo dietary fat. It’s not important to try and hit some percentage of fat, just keep carbs low and get adequate protein.

Thank you. I can’t have dairy now, which is going to be the biggest challenge. Only low fat, which I’d rather just not have in that case. I’m going to seriously miss my Greek yogurt and cheese. I can have nuts in small portions.
