It's very hard to lose weight when you like what you see in the mirror and others like it too. I had this conversation with a friend of mine recently. We're both Big Beautiful Women. We have pretty faces and shapely bodies. We get enough male attention to keep us entertained and hardly ever run into fat-prejudice because we dress well and look good, so we forget that we're obese.

I'm not being a snob. This is honest. I'm a pretty girl and that's working against me. It isn't until my boyfriend makes a hurtful comment, I need to board an airplane and my seat belt hardly buckles, or I'm afraid to go on a ride at an amusement park because I may not fit in the seat that the problem rears its ugly head.

I carry most of my weight in my lower body - a pear shape. I wear a size 18 on my upper body and must wear a size 24 on my lower body. It sounds completely disproportionate and, trust me, it's hell when I'm shopping, but I carry it well. I don't look like Jennifer Aniston when I'm naked, but with clothes on I look just as good or better.

How do I motivate myself then?

Well, I'm not motivated. I eat take-out at least once a day and over-indulge on just about anything that tastes good. It's a gluttonous form of suicide. When I'm around food I exhibit no self-control.

Ughh! Self-Control - that's more than a food issue I suppose. Someday I'll learn. I can only pray that I do.

First of all I want to applaud you on writing such an honest journal and sharing it here with us. It's great that you love and accept yourself. I have always longed to have that kind of acceptance for myself. I'm sure you are a beautiful woman and it's wonderful that you know this, however the weight loss is not about beauty it is about health and you want to keep that beauty and health as you age. I think that is what should be motivating you. Starting now to develop good habits that will keep you beautiful and healthy your whole life. Being overweight is the cause of many health problems later in life and you don't want to have those problems. I'm sure you want to be just as active later in life as you are now and now is the time to start working towards a healthier you. I hope you have a great day!!
