The Japanese Zombie's Journal, 22 April 2016

Daily fluctuations! I jumped up .6lbs since yesterday but I'm not going to sweat it. I followed the diet, I stayed under 20 carbs so I'm good... hell, I even worked out.

Yesterday I bought a new FitBit Alta. I know it's been floating around that you can use a 20% off coupon for Bed, Bath and Beyond, but for Canadian residence they don't let you do it. So I'm here to spread the good word that if you go to sport check's website and sign up for their newsletter, they will email you a 10% off coupon you CAN use to buy a FitBit. I got mine for a little bit less, and I feel better about dropping that kind of money. I tend to like to upgrade my models on a regular basis, but I just sold my Charge yesterday so that it covered some of my purchase.

So... small review on it:

Impressions on Visual:

Pros: Small, Sleek, Light Weight, nice display options both horizontally and vertically. Looks good for the office. Can change the band.

Cons: I hear the display scratches easily, so be prepared to buy screen protectors. I hate the sports band grooves, the wears down and looks ugly over time and I can attest to this with my older Charge. Again, proprietary cable, which I hate.

Impressions on Functions:

Pros: SmartTrack DOES actually sense what activity you are doing. Tested out the elliptical and it registered. Reminder to move function is great to counteract the sit-all-day effect on your body. It has a battery charge display on it, which is great. I enjoy the text, calendar alerts and caller ID immensely, helps me not be attached to my phone at all times.

Cons: Does not have altimeter, so it wont track your stairs count. No heart rate monitor. Bluetooth connection will drain your phone. Sluggish to respond on tap wake up and does not have a button to navigate.

Overall impression:

Despite lacking an altimeter and heart rate monitor, I would say this is a pretty good little device. I do enjoy it more than my charge, and it does solve the problem of "thick, ugly and obvious sports band on my wrist in the office". I have small wrists, but the small size has so many holes that I can get it to fit right. It's very comfortable, but I am weary of sleeping with it on until I install a screen protector. I like the OLED screen. It does actually track the type of workout you do, and the steps are pretty accurate. As always when you drive, it does accumulate some steps, but you can download an app called "DriveBit". I actually do recommend, these are my first impressions so I may come back in a few months ad do another update.

Here's a picture of my new bit to get me fit.

Here's another before picture that shows how round I was 7 days before I started my lifestyle change at 198lbs:

Here's a picture of me from yesterday for progress:

162.0 lb Lost so far: 3.0 lb.    Still to go: 22.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 4.2 lb a week

Thanks for this great info. I am thinking about getting one -- but this month my discretionary purchase will be ice skates, so it will have to wait, but I am copying and saving your post for later on.

HM, that's an amazing purchase! I skate every year (It's the Canadian girl in me) and it's always an amazingly fun way to move!!

JZ -- it also burns an amazing number of calories compared to other activities. I do only one skating lesson per week right now, because the rink with open skating in my area does not rent skates for that session during the day. So once I have my own skates I'll be able to go a couple times each week. Looking forward to it.

It DOES burn a ton of calories, I did it a lot in Jan/Feb until I took my first spill in years and really hurt my back. Just make sure you be careful and have fun! Same concept goes with RollerBlading, which is what I will do this summer!

Funny, I was checking out all those devices, and was perplexed because I collect watches, and I was thinking, I'm going to buy another watch like thing to wear? I may get one, not sure. I am very happy, that I can get more active again with my knee improving, and the loss of weight. Have a great one, Zombie!

Warren, I have a ridiculous thing for watches too, so this was the next step. I love wearable tech of all kind. I'm an electronics loving girl. I think you might enjoy one of these toys!

BeaugezD, this will be worth the upgrade if you're using a flex :) Lots of nifty features and just as small. HCB, I had a regular charge and loved it as well. It was just bulky on me!

JZ -- believe it or not, I've taken only one spill on the ice since I started weekly lessons in January. At first I was a little stunned, but I was fine. Considering I haven't skated in 40 years, that's pretty good, don't you think? But yes, I am being very very careful. I already have a giant piece of metal holding my right arm together, so I don't really want any more mishaps!

Lol I took some before pics in February and keep forgetting about them until scrolling through my pics on my ipod. Very scary! 😲 I cannot wait until I have lovely ones like your after pic to put beside them.

Sometimes the loss comes the next day. The scale is always very fickle.

kpwcalories: thank you! :) Christinemeowk: I'm sure you already look amazing :) Keep positive and do what you are doing!! trackin64: Thank you very much :) HCB: Oliver's chilling out with me on the couch right now while I drink my coffee :) He's very happy! LOL. Love the little guy. Warren: That's what I'm thinking too, it's why I TRY to pay no mind to it when I'm on track and it's going the opposite direction!! ick!
