And there it is - I've managed to GAIN 12 lbs since the end of May, apparently retirement DOES NOT suit me well. I know that about 6 or 8 lbs are vacation weight gain, but that doesn't explain the rest. I guess I am starting a new (for me) workout plan today, but most of this happens in the kitchen so that's where I need to focus. Yeah, still trying to finish off some leftovers, which are not exactly unhealthy but too much is still too much. Also, there's those muffins & macadamia nuts hubby bought, I had about 1 & 1/2 muffins yesterday. This morning I told him to package up the rest & freeze them or something, JEEZ!!! Not that I'm blaming him for my overeating yesterday, it was just one of those "Seafood" days, with the wrong kind of seafood if you know what I mean. Like I keep saying, today's another day, and nothing will happen if I don't do the work!

Muffins and bagels are killers on the carb and calorie dept. I find if I stick to my food plan I do so much better. I do have treats once in awhile but it takes me 2-3 days to get back on track... working out is my favorite thing to do!!

FOOD is the total answer. You cannot out-exercise a poor nutrition plan.

Tauriel, I'd like to share a couple of tips that have worked for me. When I discovered how many calories are in a bagel or muffins I started eating half. I actually weigh mine before eating it. I try not to buy muffins with a really high calorie count often. You talked about eating leftovers & not wasting food. I don't like to waste either so I usually only cook enough for 1 serving each for Hubby & I. If I cook more than 2 servings of something, I'll incorporate it into our meals in the next few days....or freeze it. I buy multi-serving packages of meat & divide them into meals & freeze them. After awhile I started feeling satisfied with the smaller portions. You should, too.

My weight loss kicked in a few months after I retired. I figured out I had time to workout that was never there when I was working. Now I do water aerobics and lift weights. I accidentally found maintenance about 4 months ago. Find a workout or 2 that you like and everything should start to fall into place. You can do this!
