skydiverjim's Journal, 28 May 2021

Well I went to the "fat doctor" yesterday. She did a %fat measurement on me - the last visit was back in March. As I suspected I gained a few pounds but she told me I was retaining a lot of water. So today I got some water pills in hopes to expel some of that excess water weight. I reduced my fat and increased my muscle by 3% so I guess, the scale isn't telling the full story - as we all pretty much agreed to the last time I made an entry.

Next step, I have a sleep evaluation at the VA on June 1st. I know I do not sleep well at all and I have been told this in itself can lead to problems controlling your weight.

SO - - we shall see.
189.0 lb Lost so far: 11.0 lb.    Still to go: 14.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

How did it go with the nutritionist (or is she the "fat doctor" that you're referring to above)? Do you drink black coffee or tea? Those are natural diuretics that can help. And oooohhhh how creepy to have people watch you while you sleep! Guess you should bring your sleeping cap with the pom-pom to entertain them 😊🤡

Sounds like good progress with the nutritionist. I hope the sleep study goes well. I don’t think I could sleep during one!

JustBananas, it went OK, I guess. I just need to regroup and get back on a sensible regiment again. I have been just letting myself go lately. I used to drink tea & coffee but the last few years I have gotten away from that. Funny you ask - as I am writing this, I am having my first cup of coffee in more than a year. I am hoping I am not going to have to go through another sleep study. The worst part is, they expect you to sleep with all of these wires attached to you monitoring your breathing, heart rate and respiratory system. It's really like trying to sleep in a hospital - does anyone have success doing that? lol

I know, Cindy Lynn, I couldn't. I went through two of them and it is impossible to sleep more than a couple hours. First I couldn't get to sleep and then the pulling of the wires when I moved woke me up. It is no wonder everyone I know who went through one of those studies came out with sleep apnea :)

I have had a CPAP machine for over a year. The way I mastered sleeping during the sleep study - I stayed up the Friday night before so by the time they got the wires on me I passed out in 20 minutes - I have enjoyed the BEST sleep ever with the CPAP machine - it’s also very healthy - good luck

Sounds like you're set for a summer overhaul: diet, sleep, drainage. Maybe once you've dropped the last pounds (from eating clean again), you won't have sleep problems anymore. I know, it's a case of chicken & egg as far as which fixes which. I slept poorly until I moved apartments last autumn, which is a drastic change but it reduced my stress 75%.

I am so blessed as I always fall asleep well. But, there are times I am reading a terrific book, or watching a great video and bam I awake and it is morning!😡 Accidentally fell asleep smoking an e-cigarette and when I woke up my whole house was on the Internet!🤣

They had to give me a sleeping pill. but that makes me wonder how much that affected my results. C-PAP kinda helps once I'm asleep. But getting TO sleep is where I fail.

Maybe try drinking some chamomile, cinnamon, or spearmint tea before bed time?! Good luck w/everything you are doing.

Tedcom, that maybe the way I should go

Slow Meta, thank you - I have actually tried that a few times, also the Melatonin. Those are hit and miss. Sometimes they help and sometimes they have no effect at all on me.
