BlueFront's Journal, 27 August 2018

My husband has been home from the hospital/nursing home now for about two weeks. He's doing better but still has both, having both good and bad days. Trying to keep him active with the exercises they taught us and being sure his meds are taken on time. He assured me he could handle them on his own but after he tried and failed I finally decided to put reminder alarms on both our cell phones. Don't know why I didn't think of this before. He still starts having the tremors and more balance troubles a few hours before meds are due so we may have to talk to the doctors about closer or higher doses. Been trying to get the exercises done about mid dose time since that's when he's the steadiest. He finally laid down for a nap this afternoon. I'm really tired today myself but still have housework to catch up on and my craft room needs straightening out, looks like a hurricane blew through there. I need to try to find him a smaller walker too. The current one is just too large for our house. When we retired to Florida 20 years ago we downsized to a modular home, smaller doorways and tighter spaces don't work well for a person who really needs the steadiness a walker gives compared to a cane. I saw one being used by a lady the other day that was 3 wheels and more maneuverable looking than the wide 4-wheelers. Time to go Googling for one like that.
I have been doing well with my WOE this week but been more exhausted than usual. Hope I'm not getting sick. I guess the stress and all that running back and forth to the hospitals/nursing home took more out of me that I thought.
Good news is that my stepson will be home from Afghanistan and he and the family will be coming down to visit in a about a month and a half and we are really looking forward to that. Family is really important and it's tough when they are so far away. I've been emailing him overseas with updates on his dad but trying not to worry him too much, a few details with a little sugarcoating to keep him focused on his job over there until he gets home.
I've added an extra Google Home device and Wemo plugs to several of the light fixtures so my husband doesn't have to turn on lights manually. Also more night lights and flashlights so he can see better after dark and only has to ask Hey Google to turn on the lights for him. People with Parkinson's disease often has odd sleep schedules and trouble sleeping at night. Getting up at night and walking with balance problems has caused him to fall multiple times. This is why I installed the Google Home and WEMO lamps. All you have to do is tell it to turn on the lamps. Nightlights help but being able to turn on the lights before entering a room is better even if you don't have disorientation at night.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy time this week and keep up the good eating habits, no matter which plan and WOE you have choose for yourself.

Baskington Thanks, the more things I learn about Parkinson's, the more things we try not only to make it easier on him, but easier on me too. You gotta deal the deck God gives you but it's up to you to learn the proper strategy to play and win.

You are awesome! I would never figure out all that techy stuff, but I can see it is a blessing. Take time each day for yourself, so you can be stronger for your husband.❤❤

My background in telephony & computer tech support makes the techy things easier. Been working with it all since the early 80's. Some of us "mature" ladies know much more than how to push a mouse around on the mouse pad. Still trying my best not to fall behind. It's a challenge I'll never tire of.
