Sparks1971's Journal, 23 May 2018

I'm a little nervous about updating my weight. In the past when I had a solid loss it gave me a sense of false security and confidence which was a slippery slope as I then felt I could indulge a little more, as if I was 'cured' of being fat.

In other news my blood sugar throughout the day has been better hovering around 100 - 120 while I am fasting. Morning blood sugar is still the pits! Usually in the mid 200s :( Sigh.

Anyway the loss is good and every little win will hopefully bring me closer to my blood sugar goals.

"Dawn Phenomenon" can be so confounding. You and I have written back and forth on this issue a week or so ago. Have you tried the protein/fat/no-carb snack before bed?

BTW, great weight loss! Allow yourself to enjoy the accomplishment! Our eating plans (and, for folks with specific health issues, our "readings") need close, daily attention. Otherwise, a mile-high view of the entire "health process" is helpful. The number on the scale is just one piece of the puzzle, but we put so much "weight" on it!

LOL we do put a lot of "weight" on weight. I haven't tried the protein/fat snack. I need to, but I'm not sure what to eat that would have fat and protein but no carbs. Do you have some suggestions?

Nice loss! Congrats!

Avocado has fat and protein and few net carbs. Tuna with no carb mayo is fat and protein mixed together. Grilled shrimp, grilled or baked salmon. Bacon and ham are pork products with fat and protein (not sugar cured though). Anything with sugar or grains like wheat are going to have carbs in them. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat right now. Keep working on bringing it down.

Great loss! Just keep moving forward doing the good things you're doing. The last time I was down to my goal weight, I ended up gaining because of the same train of thought you described, like you can now treat yourself to all the junk you had given up. I've been learning that it's so much easier to just eat healthy foods I like, then to eat the junk, gain the weight, and have to go through this all over again. You've got this!!

Hi Sparks if you don't mind me asking, do you take meds for Type 2? I think your loss is great but I understand that mentality. I had a big loss yesterday and today up 2 pounds...I had to force myself to say "OK just water weight" NOT "see, I TOLD you that you didn't lose that weight for REAL"!! LOL I always set mini goals for myself so that when I lose I get closer to my mini-goal - usually 10 pound increments. It's just so hard to just have 1 celebration for the end goal.

I started adjusting my daily carbs so that I have the lowest amount at my evening meal to try and get my evening and morning BGL stable - so far it is working for me - I manage 90 - 120 before bed and it is the same range in the morning when I get up. I am on insulin (morning) and metformin (evening) so my situation may be different.
