Nidoqueen's Journal, 19 March 2018

Ok... I've been here about 2 weeks now and I'm ready to open up and be public. Up until now, I've hidden my diaries and weigh-ins, but I've been so inspired by reading my feed that I want to join the "club" and I hope I can provide inspiration to someone else along the way.

ABOUT ME
I'm 54 years old and I've been overweight the majority of my life. It has been a lifelong struggle and most times, I just haven't bothered with the fight. I've tried to convince myself that I am happy with me, just the way I am, but the fact is, it's not true. I'm depressed, tired, ashamed, and basically sick of being me. I have Asperger's syndrome, heart disease, Type II diabetes, and diverticulitis. Each of these conditions plays a part in what I can and should eat, so choosing a diet has been a real challenge.

After a long talk with my doctor and his nutritional staff, we've decided that my best course of action is to watch my carbs, fiber, protein, and fats, plus my overall caloric intake. Finding FS to help me track all the things I need to track was a God-send and I am grateful to be here.

I started my journey after a doctor visit where my A1C registered 10.4! For the past 18 months, it has been steadily climbing and I've done nothing about it. When I hit the double digits, it suddenly all became real. I have grandchildren I want to see grow up!

I'm 54, not 94, and it's time for me to quit sitting around waiting to die. I want to not only stay alive, I want to LIVE! I want to have the energy to enjoy my grandchildren, do the things in life that excite me, and quit being a spectator in my own life. So my friends... here we go.

Today is my first day here, I'm not public as of yet, slightly nervous, I'm 47 with hypertension, hypothyroid disease and diverticulosis. I, too, have struggled with my weight over the years...now at my heaviest ever, including pregnancy, 214 lbs😱. Today I join your journey to a happier, healthier us! Please share foods that help or hinder your diverticulitis, up till now I honestly have just been dealing with it continuing to eat what I want, needless to say I'm still dealing with the bloated agree meals

Hi! Welcome to FS! This is a great and motivational place to be. I’m kinda private too but I’m learning to let go a little at a time. God bless you on your journey and praying for your success!

Praying for you! I’ve struggled with weight all my life as well! I’ve had more days overweight than close to correct weight. I’m 47 and a grandmother of 2 and a momma to most kids that needed one. 😉 but honestly I found myself saying it was ok to be who I am and just live with it! Last year in the fall I had a change of heart after visiting one of my grands in St Louis I found being overweight and out of shape I cannot enjoy playing with and keeping up with my adult children and my grands! So No! I’m going to fight! I’m determined! So right here with you! Side by side! Let’s get it done!

Hey Sue and Dawn, I encourage you to go ahead and step out where folks here can see you. It's amazing how quickly people jump up and welcome you with kind words and support. Not one person perused my diet log and reprimanded me for eating Taco Bell 2 days in row! LOL. By putting it out there, I feel more aware of what I'm putting into my body knowing that everyone can see what I eat now. It's actually helpful to me psychologically. And I'm loving the feedback!

@nidoqueen tacobell isn’t a big deal depending on what diet you are following? LOL No one here is your Mom. 🤷🏻‍♀️We’re all in the same boat most of us, trying to figure out how to adjust a healthier Way Of Eating into our lives. 💁🏻‍♀️For example, my Taco Bell would be chicken soft tacos (because the beef have wheat ingredients) no sour cream (because I dislike it, not because it’s bad for keto! LOL) Bean and cheese burritos no red sauce (red sauce has tomatoes and I avoid nightshades because of inflammation most times.) Then I would mix the beans, cheese and onions in with the chicken taco guts and eat it out of the insides leaving the burrito wraps since I’m keto and their wraps are horrendously high carb. Just like at McD’s I avoid buns and fries or anywhere else fast food. At panda express I avoid anything breaded or get my teriyaki sauce on the side. It’s all in how far you take it.🤷🏻‍♀️How much do you commit to deconstructing the crap restaurants sell us?🙋🏻‍♀️

Until I find some good Low Carbs I am Floundering... Well, just to frame my comment--I am nearly 70. I just came through cancer, and then a terrible post-cancer situation which I am still battling. I feel the Keto Approach has saved my life. No joke. But each person has to find their path. I work every day. That is another story--we work for ourselves. I need to be able to feed myself without a lot of effort. Therefore, I started by keeping it simple. I made a list of foods that I liked that fit what I was trying to do. I kept it simple. I listed amounts but basically, I didn't measure or weigh when I started. I just ate those things and then added others one by one. I have quite a list now. I have stuffed cabbage in the oven for dinner tonight. I also have jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped with bacon in the oven, as well as Gluten-free Lasagna for my husband. I still keep things as simple as possible. Otherwise, I get into trouble--don't know what to eat, etc. Stress makes weight-loss come to a standstill. So, for me, having a simple plan seems to work. I need some new jeans soon. I wish you all the luck. I truly believe eating to live and loving it at the same time is important. Maybe something here will help you. Make it you. Keep it simple. Smile
