ofdwolf's Journal, 08 February 2017

Sorry I have not been around as much lately. New semester at a new college with a new system to learn on top of work and family issues have taken up a lot of my free time to surf the web for enjoyment.

I had my colonoscopy yesterday and, contrary to popular belief, the doctor didn't find either my head or my brains in there.

However, he did find a tumor in my upper colon that he believes is cancer. He also believes we have caught it in an early stage. Whether it is malignant or not it (and a section of colon) still needs to be removed and I am scheduled for surgery on March 1st.

Luckily, I have spent the past year losing weight and working out and am probably in the best shape of my adult life and I am ready to fight the good fight. Train hard Fat Secret Warriors you never know what you may be training for.

I'm scared of having a colonoscopy for the very reason you stated in your third sentence. Praying for your best health.

How scary! Was this a routine check or did you have symptoms/issues? I am glad you caught it early. All the more reason to try to be healthy, so that when something like this comes up you are better prepared to fight it rather than having it become another issue on top of already present health issues. Keep us posted!

Thank you all for the well wishes. LostSun- I had some abdominal pain that started around the holidays so attributed it to my system not liking the food I was shoving in it. It continued after the holidays so I called for an appointment. While waiting 3 weeks to see my doctor I got a Colo-Rectal exam in the mail from my insurance company so I did that and it came back positive for blood in my stool although it wasn't visible to me. My doctor treated me for diverticulitis first but the CT scan didn't show any evidence of that so she sent me to a surgeon who set up the colonoscopy.

As a Nurse, it is so glad to hear that it was a caught at early stages. I know people don't like doing them but the Colo Rectal Exam Cards should be done yearly to detect any type of blood in the stool. Your surgery will go well sir......

Wishing you good luck. Very good you sought out doctors for help and kept at it until they found the problem.
