Ok so today I got two things going on.1.This question is for the ladies but guys if you have some positive input, please chime in.. Does meno or pre meno affect you appetite? Im almost 42. I have hot flashes at night, like I need to sleep with 3 fans or die and then last 2 nights I started getting chills at night too like I feel sick af chills and I dont want to go to work sick. That and Im ALWAYS hungry. I dont care if I just ate, Im hungry. Or if Ive just had a quality meal like a ribeye with asparagus and blue cheese salad, Im hungry. I wake up hungry, which is not common for me at all. Let me add, I have been managing my hunger and eating 5 small meals a day for 2 yrs up until this year and never felt this way before. I never came back from holidays this year, even though the last years I did with some work. Everyone knows by my post Ive working on getting on track and trying to pin point the causes of my failures and Im by no means blaming meno bc I know its all me but Ive been reading around and asking I heard increased appetite is a meno symptom? Anyone know or have any experience with this? I mean it would explain a lot. It not time for dr visit yet and I dont want to waste a co pay and say " oooh dr , Im hungry all the time". It can wait till I go in for my annual. But any input or advise would help. Appetite suppressants arent a option for me. OKAY and 2.Today my son got a scholarship award!! And we made some great connections and he hooked up with a mentor to help us with the transition from community college to university. Its a big deal for us. We got financial aid and 3 scholarships this year so this kid's covered for the next year.. Im so proud and grateful and it has nothing to do with FS other than I wanted to share with my FS family !.. Pic below, you can see im getting a little thick in the middle LOL

I'm pre-meno. My appetite hasn't changed, but like HCB, my metabolism is changing.

I used HRT after my hysterectomy at age 50. Prior to that I used birth control to Help manage symptoms. All under a dr order. Any hormonal change can/will affect your appetite similar to TOM. You are really young to consider menopause as a cause of symptoms. It's possible your body is fighting off some bug or the onset of Autumn. I am not dismissing your "hunches" b/c early onset meno is real. As you age, your hormones fluctuate. It's part of the joys of the sisterhood. If you are hungry Red, you probably need to eat. I'd recommend avocado if you can tolerate them. It is filling and heavy and the fat and fiber is good for you. Calories are high and so are the carbs, but so much better for you than fruit or junk. As for hunger and meno, I thought I would starve to death. Any chance you are pregnant? Lol...strange things happen...

Red, you are so cute. You look too young to have a child that old. Congrats to him! Well, If you are still having periods then you are Perimenopausal. In Perimenopause your hormones can be all over the place. I can tell you one thing that makes my hot flashes worse.....caffeine. You might not be getting good quality sleep at night because of the hot flashes. When do you see your physician? You have more than just the appetite issue to discuss with your physician, e.g. the hot flashes. You may disagree, but I think your quality of sleep is being affected by the hot flashes and that in turn is affecting your appetite. She/he can check your hormone levels and tell you more about what's going on. I never had a problem with an increase in appetite in regards to Menopause or Perimenopause. I did have and do have a problem with my appetite when I am not well rested (no quality sleep or not enough sleep).

I am in meno....past most of the hot flashes but yes I was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. The bullet coffee helps.....I dont get the strong urges to eat when I have the coffees. The high fat helps with the meno symptoms too I am just one person but its what has worked for me. If my carb count is too high for the day I get the night sweats.....I too have multiple fans and change of clothing when be. Its 85 here in Ontario and I have a damn sweater on. congrats to your son and the education.

Red, your son looks great! Congratulations on the scholarships and his progress! You look good too, BTW, I like the dress! On the subject of menopause. In retrospect I wish that I had gone to a good integrative medicine type doctor to address the question of bioidentical hormone replacement. I suffered through a lot of weight problems, sleep problems, emotional roller coaster problems - that might have been mitigated if I had better care. Don't tough it out- this is serious stuff. Find a good female natural doctor who specializes in this field and get your self in there early and often.

I just got an IUD (not for actual birth control) and it helped with my pre-meno symptoms. I am 44.

Consider talking to a naturopath. A Gyn is absolutely useless when it comes to this stuff. Seriously. Dealt with this for years. Found a naturopath who did more good for me then the Gyn. Also ran different labs and found a freaky thyroid issue which caused weight gain. The regret was that I didn't find her until after a hysterectomy. We could have resolved the issues naturally.

Congratulations on your son's successes!!! Excited for you.:) Good questions. At 52, I am still going strong (pre-meno) and notice that my FEELINGS are an issue about a week before my cycle begins. Also my body tends to retain water a bit during this PMS week, so I do not weigh myself everyday. Other than that, I set my mind not to feed my feelings and stay on program. Hope this helps. ;-)

Yes, wife gained about 15 lbs and has severe hot flashes and cold spells. Sounds very familiar. Buy your sig other something nice because they are about to go on a nasty rollercoaster ride with you! Ugh... 42 seems a little young, but depending on any surgeries you may have had, sometimes that will kick things in sooner (wife had partial hysterectomy years ago which started her quicker at about 45, now 47 and still going through it.)

my mom did her meno in her late 30's and never got period again which makes me think mine could be the pre meno. And shark week isnt on schedule anymore, its fluctuating like sometimes every 3 weeks sometimes every 5.MEH. I just dont want to be hungry all the time, I can deal with the lady issues. My reg dr not obgyn recommend black kohosh which I get at whole foods and it helps A LOT with the hot flashes but not much of anything else. Im trying to eat more to help Im just feeling like Im eating ALL the time, which worries me. Ive come so far and Im getting comfortable maintaining but I kinda feel a gain is right the corner. Classic Rocker, how do I find a naturopath? Radar, DH is already on the couch most nights bc he cant stand the 3 fans and bless his heart he knows to just ignore me when I get emotional about stupid stuff like commercials or burnt food LOL .. Thank you everyone for the compliments. My son I did weight loss together and he lost A LOT of weight. Not sure anyone remembers some of his chubbier pics on this page.. And yes. Im old enough to be his mom and I wasn't a teen mom LOL .. thanks every one for the awesome input.. Imma keep on keeping on !

Very nice mom-son photo :) My story regarding meno is too long and I am too lazy to type it up! I lived though!

Red, at what point did you start taking the black kohosh? Even all natural supplements can trigger hunger...I recommend going backwards and looking at your food diary's and see what has changed from the time you had hunger under control to now. Look at your supplements, food, fluid intake...make a timeline and do a process of elimination and narrow it down to 3 or 4 things that have changed, then try eliminating one of them for a week and see if you notice a difference, if not, eliminate something else...etc...
