Intermittent Fasting Plus Keto Diet

I have been fasting on every Wednesday for 6 weeks or so now....I like doing it but the problem is the weight goes back up 2 to 4 lbs in between fasting periods...even though i am trending down each week I don't like that part and i also don't want to fast more than 1 day a week...they are 36 hour fast from Tuesday night till Thursday breakfast....
I have been studying up on intermittent fasting and i believe that it will work out better for me....Since i am already in ketosis the plan is to do an 18/6 hour each day except for Sundays by eating 2 meals. I started last night 6pm after supper and broke my fast this day at noon. Good to go till 6 pm again today. I love weighing on the scale every day, but only record once a week...need to see it moving down each and every day...never up. These last few pounds are fighting me.

Sounds like a great plan Fred! I have been doing 18:6 IF for 10 days now and love it. I use the same time frame you are suggesting and it is working well with my schedule. Hope you find it suits you better also. You are doing SO great!

Now that gives me some encouragement....thank you. I believe you are correct that it will be just fine for me... i was not happy with the one day fast.

Funny that you would post this. I was contemplating the IF this morning and thinking it would probably be more effective for me to do 18:6 too. I think I will attain keto and get steady results. You are right about the last few pounds - they are fierce about letting go.

I have to post this again. I lost for the second day like i did when i was new doing Keto...this morning another .6 lbs in one day....I am addicted to the Scale, but only when i see it going down. Doing a keto diet and adding Intermittent Fasting is assume. This is working for me and knocks down any barrier that i had before...18/6 is not hard at all if you are in ketosis. My keto buddies maybe think about trying a lighter version 14/10 or a 16/8 if you need to kick it up a notch. This beats the hell out of a 24 or 48 hour fast. I've sustained a daily 18:6 since November and never bothered doing one any longer, I just wish I had discovered the power of intermittent fasting years ago, now the whole concept of three meals a day just seems excessive to me.

Oh! by the way i want to add one more thing. Intermittent-fasting is not a diet. you don't eat any less. It is an extra tool to use to help boost weight loss. You just eat all your meals and snacks in a certain time frame....I love it...why it took me so long to see this?

Question: Do you guys drink - water, tea, coffee -- with cream or MCT oil? in the morning?

Water, tea,and black coffee is OK but no Cals like cream and sugar or even substitute sugar are allowed at all during fast time....go to: this web site for some great info...copy and paste in your browser: http://jamesclear.com/the-beginners-guide-to-intermittent-fasting

Thank you for the link Fred. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about IF. Thinking that it will be my summer weight maintenance plan before my next weight loss push.

Many people that is not on any kind of diet is using this IF rule to lose weight or just to stay in shape...it's not a diet...most are not dieters at all...just doing the IF and eating...no diet at all. with 18/6 an being in keto i was still not hungry when it was time for my window to eat....so i went 19/5 today....this is so much more easy than fasting....Phil you da man.

ive started doing the 16:8 and yes its easier then doing a 20 hour fast..you gotta remember out of 16..8 or so of that your sleepin..so its not really that hard to do..

I really like that you are open to changes and am glad it's working for you. Just wanted to add there are a couple different ideas about IF. Some say it is ok to have coffee with MCT or coconut oil without disturbing the fat burning process. Some say keep it under 50 cals, and some say 0 allowed. I have done IF for almost a year and for the majority of time I had coffee with coconut oil and SF syrup every morning. Kept me from being hungry for the majority of the day and didn't seem to hinder MY weight loss. I still IF and eat one meal a day but have switched over to 5:2 also. I have stopped the coconut oil in the mornings also. I love reading what others are doing to "change things up" while still keeping the basic LC WOE! Thanks!

Fred, that is one of the great things about IF, it's very flexible and you can mix and match....and if for some reason you have a special event in your life that requires some of the foods we avoid 99% of the time, it helps you get back on track much faster and minimizes the damage. Flexible=freedom :)

WTG, Fred! I just started doing 24-Hour fasts along with the 16:8 IF. I am so impressed you are able to do a 36-Hour fast. I am hoping to do 2 or 3 of the 24-Hour fasts a week. I do have cream in my coffee in the morning and around noon a spoonful of coconut oil, besides green tea and water .. until dinner .. then I eat. It's been awkward for me but keeping busy seems to be the key to make it til the next meal. I am eating low carb.

Ok guys like Rckc has been doing ...hard core fastest weight loss is the way without any kcals...yes i will try to tweak things along the way...there is no absolutely one way to skin a cat...I will be trying all of those different ways...like drebra says mix and match..really the spice of life. but mom2boxer that is some tough stuff you are doing..good luck. this morning 2.4 lbs one day loss...love my scale. with B/room visit.

Umm...it's not about daily weight. It's about trend. Just the amount of liquid in the body can show "weight gain". Better make a plan and stuck with it. Weigh in could be like every two weeks or something. And I recommend reading this article (best so far that I have come across): http://100pounds100days.tumblr.com/weightloss

Onni4me yes it not about daily but i was trying to point out how i broke a plateau that was getting me down on the last few lbs...and by adding intermittent fasting that it just killed the plateau over night.

Yeah been there too. For me changing between different kind of exercise was the thing. Seems body gets used to the same rhythm and sort of gets stuck. So I made changing between and not in particular order. For me it's been quite hard to loose that last 10 kilos. But gotten rid of 40 kilos already and feel great. Now I try to fight with the remaining excess. I was so fat at some point that I didn't even enter the scale before lost couple of stones. I was too enbarrased...

I read through the tumblr blog you posted, Onni, not really impressed by what I saw, there's a lot better information available other places.

Thanks Fred for the update!! It must be the month for starting IF...I started around April 20 to help knock myself off of a month long plateau...6 pounds down since then and counting. I love that I can start or stop IF without any reduction in its effectiveness, calorie reduction without feeling like calorie reduction is a win in my books!!
