jmb3450's Journal, 01 September 2015

The past couple weeks have helped me realize the importance of keeping focused and on task with my health and weight goals. I've been to the point for a while where time frame isn't as important as just making this a life long change and keeping on the journey, knowing there will be ups and downs along the way. That's great but it is important to maintain focus and I've allowed my focus to wander some the past couple weeks, not making the best choices in terms of what I've eaten. Maybe that's just part of the up and down of things too. Anyway I feel like my focus is back, better, and that's a good thing.

As far as exercise things have been good, I've been increasing workout intensity. My legs have adjusted to uphill running, not sore like they were. Last weekend we got the bicycles out, cleaned up, adjusted and lubed. My wife and I went on a nice ride through the neighborhood, parks, and schools nearby. No great distances, nothing really strenuous, just an enjoyable ride around - not sure why I haven't done this sooner. Reminds me of when I was a kid and used to ride everywhere.

I'm out to fix some wiring issues with a couple schools, still resolving some issues with school startup. Hope everyone has a great day.

Great work on the realization. It's important to keep things in perspective. I'm glad you're enjoying your bikes. Keep up the great work!

Yes, we so have ups and downs. I am finding that external motivation (the trainer) helps me stay accountable to myself. We all have the "blahs" sometimes though - I always know I cannot out exercise poor food choices so I go for the 80%-20% rule...do my best the majority of the time. Labor day weekend, I will allow a treat - probably ice cream!

JMB, sounds like your my FS twin.I, dealing with the same issues. I go thru these spurts where I get side tracked here and there and then that whole week is out of wack diet wise but I stay strong on my work out outs so it seems to save me from gaining. Im struggling to find that happy balance and to make it a lifestyle not just a diet. Just keep pushing thru !

I get sidetracked with exercise, so understand. I'm trying hard to make it just part of my life. Staying mostly within my self imposed limits has simply become part of my life, since nothing is off limits it's pretty easy for me to adjust over a week if I go over a day or 2. I'll also be off playing this weekend, that means some beer and other's cooking tis OK. It'll be a good time. I will take my suspension trainer, GD wants to try it and it will be easily hooked up on their exposed log house beams.

JIm you are really so close to your goal that last few pounds is often the hardest. Then learn what works for you to maintain.

Thanks everyone. It's interesting how our perspectives and thoughts change as we gain experience doing this, and as we pick up knowledge. I do appreciate all the comments and input - I have learned much from so many here. Yes, I am getting closer to goal but it's just the first goal, I know already that I need to get to a lower weight. All the more reason to buckle down with resolve and focus. Today I am strong and on track, feeling good and sticking right on plan.

Jmb3450 - Like several other comments here you are right with everything you have observed. You certainly have the right attitude about both your long and short term goals. Straying here and there with your food choices and work outs is normal and is needed so don't feel guilty. Sounds like you know how to get yourself back on track. Great job. Keep up the good work and discipline.
