Revaudrey's Journal, 07 April 2014

Thanks to all of you for your really great responses to my maintenance questions.
I have done this yo yo thing probably 7 or 8 times in my adult life. I have 2 completely different wardrobes. And there are "benefits" to both sizes. When I weigh less I feel more confident and able. (Oddly I do not really notice any physical improvements in stamina, ease of exercise, etc... Some of my better marathons have been run at 180 lbs.) AND, you see, when I am in my heavier phase I feel much free-er. Nor constrained by counting calories or watching what I do all the time.

I am a former chef and I love to cook and I love to eat. I hate feeling harnessed by low calorie or strict portion control.

I am also a clean cook and eater. Organic when possible, clean protein ( no factory farmed meat or fish) and I love lots of ethnic cuisines. I cook Morroccan, Thai, Japanese, French, Mexican, Middle Eastern, etc.

We do not drink soda or eat chips or candy or store bought cookies in our house. I have a giant garden.

But I just can't keep it together. I am AWESOME when I have a PROGRAM ( hence FS is great for me to be disciplined) but it's when I am released to just "live life" that I gain it all back.

I am looking for support and, even more, insight as to what is my path to success.

I just find this a fascinating post. I get the thing about feeling more confident and able at a lower weight. That's me, too. I don't really think it's healthy to think that only when I'm thinner am I a competent person, but that's what it is. But that you can still employ your body to do not only regular exercise and other routine activities without problem, but also do amazing things like run a marathon when your weight is up astounds me. I applaude you for finding the motivation to keep your weight down. I think that if I felt as good (physically) and could be as active at the upper weights I'd never strive for the lower weight. When I come to this site I always read your posts. You are so interesting. I love what you post about the way you eat - organic, multi-ethnic, clean protein. And you're so articulate and honest about the whole issue of maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle. I too hate that when I'm watching my weight I feel so constrained and disciplined to the point of torture surrounding food. Having just read another of your very recent posts, I too am celebrating the arrival of spring. With great joy, not as a chore, I will get outside and be active, taking long long walks just because I love the sunshine, I love the sights, I love the feeling of exhaustion when I return home. In a few weeks this will turn into long bike rides. The very very best part is that with that much activity I'll be eating pretty much what I want, with little discipline involved, and still my body will be what I want it to be.
