Char Gets Thin's Journal, 07 January 2014

Well, I've begun my first Challenge for 2014, "A minute a Day? Really?" which is an "high intensity" workout...for 30 seconds, cool down, repeat 3 times. And do this 3 times minimum per week.

I'm using my gazelle for this one, it's an elliptical machine. I started off with a 2 1/2 minute warm up, then went into a 30 second frenzy, moving as fast as I possibly could. Then a 2 1/2 min cool down, followed by another 30 sec frenzy. One more 2 1/2 min cool down, one last 30 sec frenzy...and finished it off with a nice 6 min cool down. And I'm shocked! Yes, I did work as hard as I possibly could, but I can't believe it whooped my butt! lol Oh, I feel great now, don't get me wrong, but I can't believe that 30 secs can give you such a good workout! In all, the work out took about 15 minutes (it didn't have to be that long, but I wanted a long cool down) and I'm looking forward to doing this again. And again! lol It's only a 3 week challenge, but I just might keep this one in my repertoire, I think it's going to work well with my daily hiking and bi-weekly kettle bell circuit! And we'll see in 3 weeks whether or not it's helping me with weight loss for the new year! Feeling GOOD! :D

It's those "going like crazy" intervals that build the muscles. I di it on my bike sometimes - just push as hard as I can for a minute or too and then back to normal. It really seems to work. Good for you.

Good for you. I felt the same way about the exercise. I have done my second round and it was about like the first. I usually dread the thought of exercise. Not so much with this.
