CJT1217's Journal, 30 July 2012

So I've been running GREAT the past few weeks. Running up hills I've previously had to hike, increasing my speed and endurance, and pushing the pain threshold further back. I got cocky... I ran too hard too fast up a hill without properly warming up. Cramped SUPER BAD deep in my right calf which basically debilitated me stopping me in my tracks. Had to go back downhill to my car at a snail's pace. Iced all last night and today it's wrapped up nice and tight in ace wrap. So, for you guys relatively new to running and such, take it easy... we're not invincible and do need to warm up and stretch out if ya can before and after your training sessions.

If you don't, you might have to deal with this

At least everything from the knees up are great! So there's no excuse to not get my sweat on tonight! Rawr!

good advice. i learn the lesson the hard way with sprinting. have not been able to sprint for 3 weeks now. hamstring & hip flexor strains...i was warming up good, but i increased the duration and distance of sprints too fast according to the doctor... good luck with your recovery, and hope it is a speedy one!

Thanks, bro! It sucks when one's doing so damn well and then BAM. Speedy recovery to you too.

Make sure you take that break from running! It's really hard to do it but definitely worth it, otherwise you'll just keep prolonging the injury. Hope it feels better soon!

Haha, no burpees! Although, I did try 1 super slow and easy one, but felt the tenderness of the calf, so I decided not to. BUT, I still had a great abs and upper body work out! Despite the 4 homemade cookies yesterday, I still managed to drop a couple lbs :D I'll definitely lay off the trails.. no matter how bad I want to get out there. I'm already feeling much better. I've just got to learn to stretch those bad boys! The physical therapist I was seeing for my knee injury had told me that my calves we're super tight and taught me how to stretch em... but stubborn (or is it forgetful? hmm) ole me never did them. Keke.
