The difference between the people who say that fat loss comes down to CICO and the people who think you need to reduce carbs is that the CICO camp has countless scientific peer-reviewed and metabolic ward studies and the low carbers have youtube videos, anecdotes, and hypotheses. Choose wisely. https://completehumanperformance.com/2013/07/23/why-calories-count/

And no, I am not saying that cutting carbs is not a viable way to lose fat, it is because it eliminates many highly palatable food options so it can be what some people need to create a deficit. If that is what you need to lose fat, then go for it. Just know that it does not create any other advantage. At the end of the day, you lost the weight via calorie restriction.

Plus our metabolism by itself is literally using calories just in order to keep our bodies alive. Regardless If we eat food at all. Our metabolism will still be there doing its thang, in and of itself is doing cico, wether we choose to move, not move, or eat/not eat, it’s still there. But let’s Take that away, that takes away calories, which takes away the thermic effect of food, & takes away exercise & movement & anything else that stores/partitions/uses/burns calories. What’s left? A body without any upper or lower limit to use, partition, or store fat, or to build/lose muscle. Which would basically render all humans as Basically “equal” in that regard. Rendering foods as “equal” outside of their nutritional content. Which would basically mean, with no upper/lower limit to being able to maintain weight/gain weight/lose weight, we would be shoveling in food without it doing anything except pooping it out. & if any “types” of foods causes weight gain or loss specifically like “bad” foods = body fat gains automatically, & “good” foods equal “fat burning” (which not a single food ‘causes’ either, but let’s pretend it does in my example) that would mean, for every “healthy/good” food we ate our bodies would automatically burn fat. Then we would all lose fat and be super ripped! But! How would we gain muscle? If the “bad/unhealthy foods” cause weight/Fat gain automatically, we would have to eat “bad” foods to build muscle but they’d also cause fat gain, then eat “good” foods to lose fat but it would also cause muscle loss, if we had lost lots of fat, so we would have to Stay fat, to keep muscle, orrr keep losing weight Eating “good”... this concept, is extremely stupid, as I purposely made it. Because! FOODS are all basically neutral, when pertaining to weight/muscle/fat gain or loss. & the only thing making foods “good or bad” is the context in how they’re eaten pertaining to someone’s diet. So if I eat 3 bananas a day only, but end up losing muscle then it’s “bad” for me, but if another person eats 3 bananas a day and loses fat but not muscle it’s “good” for them. But what if I eat more bananas and notice fat loss but not muscle loss? Then it’s “good”.... that can be said for any foods in any context... it also means, that if calories didn’t exist, if all other bodily aspects related to calories didn’t exist, then we would be able to lose weight/muscle/fat with no issues & gain fat/muscle constantly. Factor in calories & all the above stuff. Now we are back to the reasons of why our bodies have limits, (same thing for animals) of why we all individually can burn more/less fat, store more/less muscle, eat more/less food, do more/less exercise, be more/less active, and any combination there of, and every single person will have a different outcome every time. So if calories didn’t matter or “exist”, than weight loss/gain wouldn’t be so drastic in so many levels as it is. And with all that said, no calories don’t need to be counted or calculated to lose fat or build muscle, it’s all about varying quantity of foods... hopefully all that stuff makes sense lol

Yes, it does. :) Whether we count or not matters not, our body keeps a log regardless, it shows in the mirror, lol. If weight loss is all one wants, they should keep protein minimal and avoid resistance training. They will lose very fast but the end result will not be the most desirable outcome. They will lose a lot of lean body mass with that fat. This is the biggest reason not to judge progress by the scale alone. If you want to sculpt the body into something resembling an athlete, resistance training and a good amount of protein should be goals. Slow weight loss is not a bad thing.
