AprilLifts's Journal, 12 April 2018

Newbie to the food tracker world, but a long time food conscious person. Ive been hitting the gym 5x a week with weight training since january 1st. My diet has been moderately strict, in terms of: I eat very clean but don't limit myself to a certain number of calories. I eat until I'm full. Muscle mass has increased, but my clothes fit tighter. This means I haven't lost any fat, I assume. So I came here to start tracking my calories and keep them under 1500 a day in hopes of leaning out after my "bulk".

Hope this works!

April, my situation is similar - food is mostly clean, workouts are stable, but lately I've noticed that my pants are tighter than I'd like them to be. There have times when my weight has been considerably higher, but when it's due to extra muscle and I'm wearing clothes 2-3 sizes smaller, those higher numbers on the scale don't bother me a bit 😁. I've had some hormonal fluctuations over the past couple years, so this isn't the first time I've dealt with this, but I find it helpful to track my food when I feel like the fat is wanting to hang around. Just the awareness tends to put me on the right road. I'm sure the same will work for you!

Im glad you mentioned hormones. I have been wondering if this stubborn chub has been sticking around because of my birth control! It hasn't caused any noticeable weight gain but has it been preventing me from losing? Very plausible

Hey April! Great body girl!!! Watch out your macronutrients in your low-calorie diet! It's a good way to lose fat but not muscles!!! if you are lifting 5times per week then you have "special" needs according to protein and also carbs for energy.

keep up the great work

Thanks for the advice sophia. My protein intake is about 30-35% of my calories, carbs being around 40-45%. I try to aim higher in the protein area, it has proven difficult.

in short, not much has changed in body composition over the past year. I gained a little, I’m a losing a little currently. When I say a little I mean truly 5 lbs difference lol. My diet is flexible as is my training! I took a break from the gym for 3 months, wow I know, that’s a long time. But i’m back at it and I feel so good! It’s like starting all over again in a sense. I get so sore I feel like ordering a wheelchair. I love that feeling 😆 As far as nutrition I listen to my body. If i’m sore I try to get more protein in, If i feel bloated I stick to fruit for most of the day.

Thank you I am happier than I’ve ever been. I often see your posts and admire the work you have been putting in over the last year. I’m truly on this site for the positivity and seeing people learn about their own bodies over time. Good luck to you, I have no doubts you’ll continue to be great 🤩
