Grinding Our Own Meats?

Meat has really gotten expensive here in the SF Bay area of California. The different ground meats, even some of the best of them, have skyrocketed too! Hubby has jumped on the Health Plan bandwagon and his tastes include a penchant for ground meats. I'm not ready to make our own sausage yet because I've only got a grinder from the 40s.

Have any of you thought about grinding your own meat and adding spices in? I think I'll try this next week--too busy this week as I have interviews and am looking for a job.

Please let me know if any of you are doing this and don't hold back on the level of difficulty or the tips and tricks. I recall some tricks and will dust off my old recipes for this. If they turn out good, I'll let you know. I'm just so jazzed that my hubby is taking his health more seriously now. Earth Man Riseth!
