Katsolo's Journal, 21 March 2018

I feel compelled to write today even though I should be racing along at work, but it never ends there, so taking two minutes. Did the pack walk in Balboa Park yesterday, led the group of 9 dogs, all Shepherds down into one of the canyons and had a grand adventure. For all of the folks that have lived in San Diego for years, so many of them weren't even aware that you could adventure off the beaten path. That said, I would not recommend it all alone and without a canine escort as there are quite a few encampments you can run into if you're not careful, but we didn't and we all had a great time. The dogs learned how to navigate some primitive stairs/steps (we had two pups) and the owners got in some serious cardio, myself included. Just a good time.

I'm holding at 162, but, in my mind, if I can break past that into the 150's, it's going to be amazing. I'm really excited. So close, I'm going to make sure I keep moving all the time all week. I wish I could post my fitness ring progress on here, I'll need to figure that out. I've been doing this since the beginning of January and I'm starting to feel like my old self again. Invincible. Now, to keep the energy/strength vampires at bay and make sure they don't suck the life out of me again. That's the challenge.

My "big" project is that I put a down payment on an endless pool. It's a small controlled current pool with a small footprint for our tiny southern california yards. I am so excited about this. I've wanted to do something for years and years and this didn't exist then. It's all about the swim and the breathing and the water. For me, it's a huge zen thing, I'm really happy when I'm swimming. Always have been. I figured it's better to do this when I'm losing and feeling good about myself and my life instead of waiting until I retire and I'm too far down the path to stay healthy. So, we tighten the belt straps for a couple of years, do most of the work myself and invest in myself and my health. Because if you die waiting for things to be perfect before you do them, you're still dead. Right?

My grandfather on my dad's side died of a heart attack a year after he retired. My dad had a septuple (7) bypass at 65. Despite my weight challenges, I've almost always been active (swimming, water polo, walking, hiking), but it's really hard when you're attached to a computer all day. My yard is going to be my oasis. Now, all I have to do is see it to fruition.
