Serious question: I snack on a lot of fruits and veggies... they all have carbs in them.... are they different than carbs from breads?

yes, they are different..... the carbs from fruits and veggies are bound with fiber so they take longer for your body to disassemble and use. Because the fiber slows the process these carbs don't affect your blood sugar as much or as rapidly (the concept behind food glycemic index). How your body responds to each of these foods is unique so it's a matter of figuring out what your body can handle and minimizing intake of those foods your body struggles with. Some veggies (usually root veggies) have a higher carb count and for me trigger a fruit response in my system ... so I avoid them. Im, unfortunately, one of those people who struggles with carbs.......I love fruit.....but if I eat fruit (any fruit) It triggers sugar cravings and really high blood sugars....so I rarely eat fruit now. The nutrients available in the fruit are readily available in veggies I can eat without disastrous affects on my blood sugars, so I go that route.

bread....yummy, delicious, bread.....bread tends to be broken down very quickly (depending on the fiber content) and is available for use very quickly by the body...... Bread and potatoes are my kryptonite. I have learned to avoid them like the plague. The cravings they trigger for me are just not worth it.

Dr. Westman says, "Fruit is nature's candy." Beware, fruit is like bread and starchy veggies - high glycemic, and very damaging to weight loss. You lose weight when your insulin is low, and it is low when you don't consume high glycemic carbs. Stick to above-ground vegetables for your carbs, if you're looking for rapid weight loss.

I am a little lost with this stuff. So, what exactly are good veggies?
